So that's a wrap from us after an instantly forgettable game in Dublin.

I said right at the beginning of this page that at least one set of supporters would probably be cheered up by the match, but I'm not sure if that's really been the case.

It's a useful point for Wales as they already had six and Ireland showed plenty of heart and fight after enduring a horrendous week after penalty pain and covid-withdrawals.

But neither side get too much time to dwell on things, whether you glass is half full or half empty.

Ireland visit Finland and Wales travel to Bulgaria on Wednesday, 14 October, so we shall see you then as we do this all again.

Thank you for following along with us today.

  2. Wales performances will improve - Giggspublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Wales manager Ryan Giggs told Sky Sports: "It was a bit scrappy and we didn't really get into our rhythm but you have to credit Ireland for that.

"Three games, three clean sheets, two away games, so you have to be happy.

"But our performances have to be better and they will be.

"We need to create more, we need to get our key players on the ball quicker but credit to Ireland they pressed us well.

    "We're looking forward to Wednesday."

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny told Sky Sports: "The players can be extremely proud of how they played, it wasn't perfect but it was an evenly matched game.

"They showed great attitude and passed the ball well but just couldn't get that goal."

  4. Ramsey happy with the pointpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Wales captain Aaron Ramsey told Sky Sports: "We are on seven points now and we are happy with how things have gone.

"We found today hard at times but to come here and come away with a point we'll take it.

"Ireland press a lot more now so we had to try and adapt to that and at times we found that difficult.

"But we have stuck in there and got that point."

  5. A result to build on - Duffypublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

Republic of Ireland captain Shane Duffy told Sky Sports: "Both sides cancelled each other out and we haven't taken our chances but I thought we played some good parts.

"It's a point we had to dig together for, if there were any questions we showed we have great spirits despite being short on bodies.

"We feel sorry for the lads who couldn't be involved so we've done that for them and all the fans who couldn't be here.

"We kept going, tried to do the things we've been asked, but it's a clean sheet and we can build on that."

After the week they've had, losing seven players from their squad because of Covid-19 as well as a heartbreaking Euro 2020 play-off loss, maybe avoiding defeat can be spun as progress for the Republic of Ireland but this is not one that will live long in the memory.

The Irish did have the better of the chances but did not play nearly as expansively as they did in Bratislava on Thursday night. And the bald fact is that the Republic of Ireland remain without a win in seven games in the Nations League.

A lot of the Wales players are lacking game time.

They also obviously miss Gareth Bale. He attracts players around him and makes space for others.

It was one of those days really.

    That's that.

You would say a draw is a fair result.

You would also have to reflect that it was not a great spectacle, perhaps understandably.

After being possibly unlucky to be booked on 78 minutes for clipping Connor Roberts' heels, James McClean couldn't afford to take the risk of flying in like he did on Ethan Ampadu - even if he might argue that the ball was there to be won.

    Kieffer Moore looks absolutely exhausted.

Hal Robson-Kanu is injured and Sam Vokes and Christian Doidge are not in the squad and Wales look a little light in attack.

David Brooks cuts in from the right and shoots left footed, but Darren Randolph saves and and holds.

So advantage Wales with six minutes remaining.

Could they find another late winner for another 1-0 win?

  16. RED CARDpublished at 83 mins

James McClean is sent off for a foul on Ethan Ampadu.

Hard to tell if that was a straight red or a second yellow.

    Either way, he's off.

  18. James worry?published at 80 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Wales

The hope was that Daniel James would go away with Wales and rediscover some form and confidence that he's certainly been lacking for his club.

    That simply hasn't happened.
