As Leeds go marching on to the Premier League it would seem, Barnsley continue to fight, even if they could be heading the other way out of the Championship.

Two rounds of games remain across the second tier and there are still many stories to be written.

Champagne remains on ice for now, tears left uncried at this stage. Plenty of both will spill over the next seven days or so.

You can continue to follow it here on the BBC Sport website and app, starting with Friday's game between Huddersfield and West Bromwich Albion tomorrow night.

Be there. You don't want to miss it. Until then, goodnight.

At the bottom, it's looking a tall order now for Barnsley to survive.

They could be down by the time they host Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and even if they take it to the final day, they then face the seemingly unstoppable force that is Brentford in their last game.

The Tykes were excellent today - Leeds know they've been in a real game, but that will be little consolation for Gerhard Struber and his team.

This is what that result means for the top of the Championship...

Any sort of slip-up from either West Bromwich Albion and Brentford over the weekend, and Leeds will be a Premier League club once more.

If the Baggies and the Bees both win, Leeds could secure promotion on Sunday - against Derby.

What a story that would be...

That was a victory for character and graft from Leeds, who have to say Barnsley came to Elland Road and put in a magnificent display.

The sad fact for Gerhard Struber is, they have lost. Again, they had chances, again they played good football.

Sadly, for the Tykes, they could be down by the time they take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday if results go against them.

Every sinew has been strained, every muscle stretched and every lactic burn tells the Leeds players they've been in a game.

There's consolation for Barnsley, who are pretty much to a man on their haunches but their excellent display is no consolation as they've lost this one thanks to Michael Sollbauer's own goal.

Leeds were outplayed and outfought at times but the key fact is they've done it, they've taken the points and now are one point off promotion to the Premier League.

Alex Mowatt had a chance on the edge of the box but didn't let fly and Leeds smuggle it clear.

Stuart Dallas is put through one on one but is denied by Jack Walton.

Then Pablo Hernandez gets a yellow for clipping Callum Styles. Taking one for the team they call that. The Barnsley man was away.

    Last minute.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford got away from Michael Sollbauer and the Barnsley striker defender seems to clatter him.

Referee Jarrod Gillett not having any of it.

    Four minutes of added time.

Marcelo Bielsa is on his haunches, still jabbering commands, still pointing and prompting.

His Leeds side are not home and hosed yet, but they're getting closer. Two to go plus stoppages.

Both sides have had chances to make a dig on their opponents' goal but the final ball is off.

    Leeds 1-0 Barnsley

Leeds get a rare sight of the Barnsley goalmouth but Ezgjan Alioski's hooked cross is to nobody. Not his fault, just not enough support forward.

Barnsley have thrown on Patrick Schmidt, a striker.

Mads Andersen now gets a chat from referee Jarrod Gillett after poleaxing Mateusz Klich (no pun intended).

Leeds are on the rack. Jacob Brown crosses from deep and bends it right into a dangerous zone but as Cauley Woodrow darted in, the ball was guided over the top by Ben White.

White often looks like he's playing with a dinner jacket on but he's had to dig out the fatigues tonight, he's in a real battle. Leeds having to graft.

Liam Cooper throws himself at the loose ball and blocks Cauley Woodrow's effort on goal, as Leeds show their defensive mettle under pressure.

    Leeds clear.

Then another ball into Woodrow allows the striker to turn and half-volley, forcing Illan Meslier to tip over.

    Leeds 1-0 Barnsley

The few touches Pablo Hernandez has had are testament to his talent, but this game has sort of passed him by in the hurly-burly.

Barnsley put together a move he'd be proud of at the other end, one-touch, pass and move between Conor Chaplin and Jacob Brown but the Leeds defence swoops to hook away.

Big block by Mads Andersen to barge Patrick Bamford away from the ball, legally, after Mateusz Klich won possession and threaded through the lines.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 67 mins

    Leeds 1-0 Barnsley

    Brilliant save from Jack Walton!

Leeds broke down the left with Ezgjan Alioski who ate up the metres before bending a perfect pass curled into Patrick Bamford on the right.

He was pushed a little wide but didn't place his effort sufficiently and it's saved. Golden opportunity that.

The water break has brought Leeds some mercy though, it's been a tough third quarter.
