    Leeds 1-0 Barnsley

Jack Harrison and Luke Ayling work a position for Leeds down the Barnsley right but the cross goes behind.

Signs of Leeds' machine-like midfield starting to click into gear now, the rhythm is back somewhat.

Barnsley, being enthusiastically urged on by Gerhard Struber, continue to dig in though.

    How cruel is football?

Barnsley were close to taking the lead when Mads Andersen headed a corner from Callum Styles wide.

Leeds went up the other end and showed them how to do it.

Patrick Bamford was played in down the right of the box and managed to cut back from the byline.

Helder Costa was poised to tuck it in but Michael Sollbauer, in trying to clear, could only divert it into his own net

Leeds go in front. Harsh on the Tykes.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Barnsley up to now have done a great job of limiting space for Ben White and particularly Mateusz Klich, who in the absence of Kalvin Phillips are the fulcrum base for most Leeds attacks.

Just before the break we saw Klich starting to influence a little more, keeping the reins tight on him could be the difference in this first half for the visitors.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Neat play between Stuart Dallas and Helder Costa down the right gets the Portuguese dangerman into the Barnsley area, but as he twinkle-toed his way for a shot, the ball was gathered by Patrick Bamford who was offside.

    Tide might be turning.

    Drinks break time.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Bit of mild panic in the Barnsley box, after Jack Harrison's free-kick drifts in...

Jacob Brown headed into Aapo Halme at close range, but the rebound is kind for goalkeeper Jack Walton.

Barnsley survive. Leeds just imposing themselves a little more.

Leeds almost in, Mateusz Klich rolls a defender and gets into the box but his low centre passes by.

Jack Harrison tries to tee it up to Patrick Bamford but he is robbed.

Just before that Bamford had been swamped on the edge of the Barnsley box having been played in, time and space denied. It was a tame shot.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Barnsley working overtime at both ends of the field. How long can they keep this up, given the recent gruelling schedule?

Leeds happy to remain patient and wait for the spaces.

Another Barnsley move ends with a wild swipe from Cauley Woodrow, half-volleying his shot wide.

Missed opportunity for Leeds but you have to give credit to the Barnsley defence for dogged work.

It looked as though Tyler Roberts was away, driving into the left side of the box, but as he tried to square it for Patrick Bamford, there was a terrific last-ditch block.

The corner was well overhit by Jack Harrison. Leeds must tidy up those dead-ball situations.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Jacob Brown almost puts Cauley Woodrow in for Barnsley with a little curling scoop pass over the back four, but Illan Meslier gets there first.

Then Jack Harrison bombs down the left for Leeds and puts a dangerous cross in which is turned behind for a corner.

Jack Walton punches the corner away, danger averted, particularly as Helder Costa just runs the ball dead.

  10. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Jacob Brown is put through for Barnsley, but his shot fizzes across goal from a tight angle.

Again, it was the press in midfield which created the position, nicking possession and Callum Styles did brilliantly to win the ball.

Brown unfortunate. Good pressure from Barnsley.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Very intense press from Barnsley, really cutting down the space for Leeds, who as a result look to get the ball in behind quickly.

Smart work from goalkeeper Jack Walton to come off his line and gather on one such occasion.

Leeds will not have it their own way, the Tykes are up for this.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Barnsley played some decent football in and around the Leeds box but Ben White and then Liam Cooper just nipped things in the bud with respective blocks and tackles.

Another clever ball through trying to split the Leeds defence has Stuart Dallas on the back foot, but the Northern Ireland international recovered.

    Leeds 0-0 Barnsley

Leeds looking to pump the ball into the channels in the early phases, Luke Ayling banging one up to Patrick Bamford but Barnsley clear their lines.

Much has been made on social media of three centre-halves starting for Leeds, with Ben White drifting into more forward areas and taking the role usually filled by Kalvin Phillips.

A few challenges snapping in midfield. Lively start.

Early pressure for the Tykes as Leeds win a corner but the set-piece from Jack Harrison is well defended.

Plenty is made of the history of Leeds United at Elland Road, it could be an intimidating prospect for some players but I think at this stage it's more inspirational.

Perfectly observed silence. Once more the players kneel in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and then we'll be off.

Barnsley are out, led by their skipper Alex Mowatt who was a boyhood Leeds fan and an academy product who played for the first team.

Now he's got to guide his side to a great escape.

Leeds follow suit, Liam Cooper their skipper, another man with the Whites dear to his heart.

    We're not far off now.

Leeds United can pay their respects to Jack Charlton on home soil, following the passing of the club legend, aged 85, last week.

The Ashington-born centre-half is the third member of Don Revie's classic Leeds side of the 1960s and 1970s to be lost this year, following Norman Hunter and Trevor Cherry.

He played a club record 773 games, lifted the league title, the FA Cup, League Cup and Fairs Cups, not to mention the World Cup with England.

Genial, hard as a player, charismatic. He is much missed already. RIP Jack.

Tributes will be paid this evening, to add to the flowers and scarves left outside Elland Road by supporters.
