    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

    Alarm bells ringing for Alaves.

Lionel Messi is standing over a free-kick in Lionel Messi territory...

  2. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Thursday's win against Real Betis came as a huge relief for Alaves, knowing they would face Barcelona in their final game.

That victory took them four points clear of Leganes in the final relegation place.

Leganes now have the unenviable task of finding a result against newly crowned champions Real Madrid this evening - and must hope Celta Vigo fail to beat bottom-placed Espanyol - if they are to survive...

  3. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Well, Lionel Messi has not quite been on it so far today but this is much, much better.

He knocks the ball past his marker and curls a left-footed shot from the edge of the box which flies off the wrong side of the post.

The woodwork has been Alaves' best player so far.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 13 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Is it going to be one of those days?!

Barca strike the crossbar for a second time in the opening 13 minutes.

This time it's Arturo Vidal who sees his shot cannon off the bar after some great work by Riqui Puig.

    Really nice open game this.

  5. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Ansu Fati attempts to bend a shot into the far corner of Roberto's goal from the left and he's just an inch or so away from a lovely goal.

Fortunately for Alaves, the 17-year-old ever so marginally gets his angles wrong.

    Barca are getting closer.

  6. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Back on the pitch though, and Lionel Messi misses a great opportunity to put Barcelona ahead.

Alaves switch off and a fairly simple pass into the box from Sergi Roberto finds Messi in acres of space - but the Argentine fluffs his shot completely.

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Do you think there's any risk of Barcelona falling away - perhaps only temporarily - and "becoming a new AC Milan or a Manchester United" as suggested by club presidential candidate Victor Font?

Lionel Messi won't be around forever...

  9. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 4 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

    Great hit!

In search of his first goal for the club, 20-year-old Riqui Puig smashes the crossbar from the edge of the box with an excellent strike.

Goalkeeper Roberto was completely helpless there.

  10. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Alaves 0-0 Barcelona

Barca's only hope of a major trophy now of course is the Champions League.

They host Napoli in the last 16 second leg on Saturday, 8 August, having drawn 1-1 in Italy.

They've started brightly in glorious sunshine so far, despite there being seemingly little motivation.

    Right then, we're off!

  12. Race for the golden bootpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 19 July 2020

    Alaves v Barcelona (16:00 BST)

Lionel Messi is La Liga's top scorer on 23 goals heading in to this final round of fixtures.

He is two ahead of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who faces relegation-threatened Leganes later tonight (20:00 BST).

Can Messi put the Golden Boot beyond Benzema this afternoon, or will the Frenchman produce something special to steal the crown from Barcelona's star man?

  13. 'Things have to change'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 19 July 2020

    Alaves v Barcelona (16:00 BST)

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi said "things have to change" at the club after it was confirmed Barca had lost their La Liga title on Thursday.

The club's 30-game unbeaten home run in the league also came to an end in that defeat by Osasuna.

"We didn't expect to finish in this way, but it sums up the year for us. We are a weak team who can be beaten with enough intensity and enthusiasm.

"We have lost a lot of points which we shouldn't have done. We have been very inconsistent. We need to be self-critical, starting with the players, but also across the entire club.

"We are Barcelona, and we are obliged to win every game."

    Alaves v Barcelona (16:00 BST)

Real Madrid were confirmed as La Liga champions on Thursday night following a 2-1 win against Villarreal, as Barcelona fell to a 2-1 defeat at Osasuna.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Alaves secured their safety in midweek with a win over Real Betis.

With no pressure on either side, hopefully we can enjoy a nice, open game...
