    Huddersfield 1-0 West Brom

Richard Stearman gets a timely head on a West Brom free-kick into the Huddersfield box that was looking for a touch from the likes of Ahmed Hegazi and Semi Ajayi there.

Following corner is also cleared by the Terriers but shortly after Chris Willock is booked for cynically tugging back on Grady Diangana's shirt.

    Huddersfield 1-0 West Brom

Trevoh Chalobah in the thick of things again after Matheus Pereira goes to ground off the touchline after trying to win the ball off the Huddersfield wing back.

No cards this time much to Chalobah's relief but he's on a short leash now that's for sure.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20 mins

    Huddersfield 1-0 West Brom

Trevoh Chalobah gets a booking for time wasting it seems as he takes a while over a throw-in.

Chalobah protests and rightly so as he seems to be the unfortunate recipient there of two or three team warnings from referee John Brooks.

NIck Bruzon: Oh my word. Come on Brentford. I mean Huddersfield!!! That's turned up the smile at Griffin Park.

It's early days, but if things stay as they are, Brentford's promotion hopes will be in their own hands.

    It's all Huddersfield so far.

Chris Willock finds space again down the right but can't quite find the right ball between himself and Lewis O'Brien to tee up Fraizer Campbell running into the penalty area from the left.

    Huddersfield 1-0 West Brom

    Lightning fast start from Huddersfield.

Another decent attack with Chris Willock surging into the area and the hosts are loudly appealing for a penalty.

Fraizer Campbell went to ground off the ball as he and Romaine Sawyers appeared to tangle bodies.

    Nothing given.

Get those drinks on ice in Leeds....

Perfect start for Huddersfield. Stuff of nightmares for West Brom.

The visitors concede a needless free-kick after Dara O'Shea fouled Juninho Bacuna. He delivers the cross into the six-yard box from the left which West Brom fail to clear and it falls to the waiting Chris Willock to stab it home into the bottom left corner from eight yards out.

    Dramatic start.

Right - both teams are out on the pitch going through their final warm-ups and the DJ is trying to pump out all the big beat hits before kick-off.

    Shall we get going then?

Will West Brom and Brentford manage to keep Leeds sweating on their promotion for a few more hours or will results work in their favour starting this evening to get the party started?

  14. "Are you watching Leeds United?"published at 17:26 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

Huddersfield Town v West Brom (17:30 BST)

I'm sure they'll be a fair few Leeds fans and players tuning-in to this match just in case the result falls in their favour.

It will potentially be like that time in 1992 when ITV cameras went round to a house where most of the players were watching on the sofa when Liverpool beat Manchester United at Anfield to hand The Whites the Division One title.

But one person who will not be glued to the screen, is Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine proclaimed after his side's narrow win against Barnsley last night that he will not be watching any matches involving either West Brom or Brentford between now and the end of the season.

Anything less than a win for West Brom this evening would book Leeds' return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence, but Bielsa refuses to get ahead of himself.

"Until the situation is mathematically resolved, we cannot talk about promotion," said Leeds boss Bielsa.

Asked if he would follow the other teams' games, he said: "No, we always think that what we are able to get depends on us. We are thinking of the next match."

  16. Who might make the dreaded drop?published at 17:24 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

And down at the other end of the table, where Huddersfield currently find themselves, what permutations do we have in store there?

(Now pay attention, it's quite complex)

    bottom sixImage source, .
    • A win for Huddersfield would all but stave off a second successive relegation for the Terriers and put them six points ahead of third-from-bottom Hull City.
    • Elsewhere, Neil Warnock could make it mission accomplished at his new club Middlesbrough while upsetting the promotion prospects of his former side Cardiff on Saturday if Boro get a positive result. Even a draw may be enough to secure Boro's promotion such is their superior goal difference over Barnsley and Luton.
    • Second-from-bottom Luton and third-from-bottom Hull could send the other, or potentially each other down, depending on that result at the KCOMM Stadium.
    • Barnsley quite simply need to beat Nottingham Forest on Sunday or they will be all but mathematically relegated.
    • Wins on Saturday for Stoke and Birmingham would make them safe, Charlton may still be sweating on a last-day survival even if they beat Wigan in one of the lunchtime kick-offs.
  17. What can happen at the top?published at 17:23 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

Into the last couple of games in this delayed Championship season and we may well start to see some issues being resolved over the course of this weekend.

Here's a look at the current top six and what may or may not be decided from this evening:

    Champ top sixImage source, .
    • Leeds to go up? Thursday's 1-0 win over Barnsley left Marcelo Bielsa's side on the brink of promotion. Anything less than an Albion win at Huddersfield or a Brentford victory at Stoke on Saturday will end Leeds' 16-year absence from England's top flight. Otherwise, a point at Derby on Sunday will be enough for a top-two finish.
    • West Brom to go up too? That can only happen this weekend if the Baggies win at the John Smith's Stadium and Brentford lose at Stoke.
    • Brentford have a far superior goal difference to West Brom, so if Albion win and Brentford avoid defeat, the automatic promotion race will go to the season's final round of games on Wednesday. The Baggies host QPR, while the Bees are at home to Barnsley.
    • If Albion either draw or lose then it is out of their hands, and Brentford will go up if they win their final two matches.

So what does tonight's game potentially mean at both ends of the table?

  19. Cowley feels pressure will be on Baggiespublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 17 July 2020

Huddersfield Town v West Brom (17:30 BST)

Huddersfield may not exactly be what you'd call free-flowing or free-scoring in recent weeks, while their last home game saw them beaten by fellow strugglers Luton.

But boss Danny Cowley feels the visit of West Brom this evening will be a very different challenge and one which should hold no fear for his side.

"West Brom will come to us having to win," he said.

"This is going to make it a very different game to when we played Luton.

"West Brom will have to open up and try and come at us and that will create opportunities for us.

"But, we just got to try and be the best version of us and give it our best shot."

    Slaven BilicImage source, PA Media

West Brom have seen their hold on an automatic promotion place putting under severe pressure since the season's restart with Brentford having picked up maximum points to chase them down.

But with just a point's advantage coming into this evening's trip to the John Smith's Stadium, boss Slaven Bilic is refusing to put any more pressure on his players.

"I keep trying to tell the players there's nothing wrong with being nervous at this stage," the Croatian told BBC Radio WM.

"It's not a flaw. It is normal to feel pressure. We see this year in, year out in any sport.

"It's still a good position to be in. We're fully motivated, with hunger, the right mentality and intensity. The key is to be very calm. We have to share that pressure."
