  2. 'Referee didn't cost us' - Robinsonpublished at 22:02 British Summer Time 3 August 2020

    FT: Ross County 1-0 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson says his side only have themselves to blame for their loss to Ross County.

"How we started the game cost us, it wasn't any decision the referee made," he said.

"We didn't match runners in the first 15 minutes. It's certainly a lesson for our young squad. We missed our own penalty and two great chances. If you don't take your chances you don't win football matches."

    On Callum Lang's red card:

"It looked like a red card from where I was, you give the referee a decision to make."

  3. 'We've ridden our luck with the missed penalty' - Kettlewellpublished at 21:58 British Summer Time 3 August 2020

    FT: Ross County 1-0 Motherwell

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell expressed his delight at the win:

"The remit at the start was to come away with three points," he said.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult task but I was delighted with the first half and the grit in the second half. I'm struggling to find anyone that didn't offer us something in the game.

"For us to go to the next level we need to trust ourselves in possession. At times we panicked in second half. We've ridden our luck with the missed penalty."

    On David de Gea comparisons:

"It's wasted on me with the whole social media thing. He may be my doppelganger, or it’s the other way around!"

Ross County defended as a team really well in the second half. You can see their work ethic. Motherwell had the majority of possession but you need a little bit of luck and County got that with Motherwell's penalty miss

They [Kettlewell and De Gea] are very similar. I can see why they are saying that. It's the hairstyle, the old sweep back.

  9. FULL-TIME - Ross County 1-0 Motherwellpublished at 21:33 British Summer Time 3 August 2020

    Well, who saw that coming?

Ross County start the season with all three points against a Motherwell side who will have travelled to Dingwall with victory in mind.

Ross Stewart's penalty inside 24 minutes is the difference between the two sides after Declan Gallagher recklessly brought down Harry Paton.

Motherwell had chances to at least earn a point. Chris Long hit the post shortly after they went behind, while Liam Donnelly dragged a penalty wide in the second half.

New 'Well signing Callum Lang them compounded their misery when he earned a straight red card late on.

You've got to go early for those deliveries. It was a wicked outswinger from Nathan McGinley. It was begging for a striker to get on the end of it
