That's as far as we go here on a momentous day for Harrogate.

The North Yorkshire side will be in the EFL next season for the first time in their history.

Boss Simon Weaver took over in 2009 and has overseen a tremendous turnaround in the club's fortunes.

They've now got under six weeks to tear up their artificial pitch and put down a grass one and get ready to play League Two football.

We'll be back with the final game of the EFL season on Tuesday when Brentford play Fulham in the Championship play-off final.

The game starts at 19:45 BST but you can join us for build up at 18:30 BST.

Thanks for your company today and congratulations to Harrogate Town, the 145th team to play in the Football League.

  3. Ardley devastated but proud of playerspublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    FT: Harrogate 3-1 Notts County

Notts County boss Neal Ardley tells BBC Radio Nottingham:

"I'm devastated. We just weren't at it. Everything we worked on during the week was about how fast Harrogate would come out. To see us at six and sevens was disappointing. We prepped them perfectly for that game, for exactly what happened.

"I'm delighted with how we responded in the second half but we conceded poor goals today and, on the day, the best team has won. Too many players who have been magnificent this season didn't quite have their game on.

"I'm not going to have a go at the boys and let it define how well they've done this season. They're all devastated, naturally, but I can only reiterate to them how proud I am of what they've achieved.

"We have to more forward now, be stronger, try and bring some fresh people in, strengthen the squad, and we have to try and hit the ground running next season.

"Losing a final at Wembley is one of the worst things ever but we have to use this pain to make sure we move forward."

Harrogate boss Simon Weaver told BT Sport:

"I'm ecstatic. I don't think it has sunk in.

"It is down to the hard graft of honest lads.

"I'm so glad we've been able to finish the job

"It's a different club to the one I walked into 11 years ago. Going full-time allowed us to recruit hungry players and you could sense all season something special could happen."

This Harrogate team fully deserve this. Notts County did not play well today.

All of North Yorkshire should be fully proud of Harrogate Town joining the English Football League.

A picture that sums up the range of emotions once the full-time whistle went at Wembley.

Notts County will be back in the National League when their 2020-21 season starts in October while Harrogate must now rip up their artificial pitch and get a grass one down to start the EFL season in September.

A brilliant achievement for a team who only won promotion to the National League two years ago.

    Mark Stallard
Former Notts County striker on BBC Radio Nottingham

You have to say congratulations to Harrogate - what an achievement for them. All credit goes to them.

The better team won. Notts County can have no complaints. It could have been a lot more convincing than it was.

County have given it their all this season, it's been a massive effort, but they have fallen 90 minutes short.

They've seen where Barrow have set the marker this year and the standards that Harrogate have produced today, when it mattered. Next season Notts must set out to be top of the tree.

  11. Harrogate in 'dreamland'published at 17:02 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    FT: Harrogate 3-1 Notts County

Harrogate captain Josh Falkingham told BT Sport:

"It's dreamland. It's an emotional time for a lot of us.

"There's not many big names in our group. We're just a hungry group of lads.

"It's been an amazing achievement. We're going to wake up tomorrow hungover but delighted.

"They're a good side and I think finishing second and third this was a deserved final.

"We managed it well when we were under pressure and got a goal at a good time.

"Jon Stead came on and his experience saw us through."

Harrogate winger Jack Diamond tells BT Sport:

"It's brilliant. All the lads wanted it so much. It's a pleasure to be a part of it.

"We took our chances in the first half and put them under pressure.

"It's been great to be here and I've just tried to learn from the lads.

"I missed a good chance in the first half so it was brilliant to take one to win it.

"I think it'll be a cup of tea and an early night now... Nah, I'm sure it will be a great night with the lads."

    Can you believe this?

There is no reaction around this pretty empty stadium, for the most incredible moment in Harrogate Town's history.

When Simon Weaver took this job on, so many years ago, the entire budget was around £1,000, I believe. The club was fairly penniless. Somehow he has put this team together.

For the first time in their history Harrogate Town will be an EFL side next season!

First half goals from George Thomson and Connor Hall had them well on their way.

Callum Roberts got Notts back in straight after the break but Jack Diamond's close range finish sealed it.

Harrogate just keep the ball for a good minute or so to eat up the clock and tire out Notts some more.

They take off Jack Muldoon for Mark Beck and Notts bring on Dion Kelly-Evans for Ryan Brindley.
