Let's not forget, for both of these sides, this is only their second game for four months.

Notts have still been a bit sloppy.

    And that's drinks.

Harrogate made the perfect start when George Thomson gave them the lead inside five minutes and they maybe should avae made it two shortly after through Aaron Martin.

Notts have grown into it and they'll be hopeful they can make their pressure count soon.

Notts enjoying a better spell now.

They work the ball to the edge of the Harrogate area but the Yorkshire side force them back without managing a shot.

Mitch Rose aims a long throw into the Town area but they manage to clear at the second attempt.

All is going well for Town so far. It was an early time to score but there's never a bad time to score.

Some good play from Notts County ends with Ryan Brindley cutting back a low cross for Kristian Dennis but Harrogate defender Ryan Fallowfield does well to block his effort behind for a corner.

The set piece comes to nothing but encouraging signs for the Magpies.

Notts County really need to try and get a foothold in this.

The Yorkshire side are enjoying the lion's share of possession and could (maybe should) be two goals to the good right now.

The Magpies have some experienced heads out there and boss Neal Ardley will be looking to them to help turn the tide in this game.

    Should be two for Harrogate!

Aaron Martin gets in behind the Notts defence and brings it down beautifully but drags his low shot just past the post.

It's just Martin's second appearance for Town but he probably should be celebrating his first goal right now.

A nervy start has just become a nightmare start for Notts County. They've not been able to get any passes together.

The full-back pushed on, it was a good ball and already Notts now need a response. They have to get some possession and settle.

There's no need to panic but it's the worst start.

    Right, this is it then.

Is it to be a return to the Football League for Notts County or are Harrogate going to be the 145th team to play in the EFL?

    Harrogate get us under way.

These moments don't come along very often so you have to enjoy them and make the best of them.

Any advantage Notts County might have had, from having more supporters in the stadium, is gone.

This is the most important ever match for Harrogate Town.

Let's hope the game is won by a piece of skill and not by a decision or an injury.

  15. Bugg 'very proud' of County's seasonpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Harrogate v Notts County (15:00 BST)

    Jake Bugg

Earlier this week, Notts County fan and well-known singer-songwriter Jake Bugg told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"To have this opportunity, one game away form going back in to the league, it was not something I thought at the start of the season.

"Win or lose, we should be very proud of how well they've performed."

There's no chance of any lightning bolts today, by the way. The weather is set fair for the afternoon at Wembley.

Harrogate v Notts County (15:00 BST)

This is just the second ever meeting between these two sides.

Notts can boast a 100% record going into today’s final courtesy of a 2-0 win in North Yorkshire back in August 2019.

Harrogate finished second in the table, three points and one place above Notts, having played one game less.

For some context, this is their highest ever league finish while, by virtue of this being their first ever season out of the EFL, this is the lowest the Magpies, previously the Football League's oldest club, have ever finished.

Notts County were one of the 12 founding members of the Football League back in 1888.

The Magpies were formed in 1862, making them the oldest club in the EFL... Until last season.

After years of uncertainty off the field and (at best) mixed results on the pitch, the Meadow Lane side were relegated to non-league football after a season which saw them sack Kevin Nolan and replacement Harry Kewell before the end of November.

Boss Neal Ardley, who took over in November 2018, says it is time for the club to "enjoy" the present and move forward.

"There is no future in looking backward," he told BBC Radio Nottingham. "We have been through it, we talk about it.

"The lows that we have experienced should help us to enjoy the highs that little bit more. And certainly the high of going to Wembley and having fans biting their nails in a good way is great.

"We will just try to enjoy the fact we are there now and focus on where we can take the club."

  18. The road to Wembleypublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Harrogate v Notts County (15:00 BST)

The coronavirus pandemic saw football at all levels brought to a halt in March.

In April, National League clubs voted in favour of ending the season and in June a motion was passed to calculate the final table on a points-per-game basis.

That saw Barrow promoted to League Two as champions and the teams finishing between seventh and fourth then faced off in one-off play-off eliminators.

Boreham Wood beat Halifax 2-1 to earn a trip to Harrogate and Barnet won 2-0 at Yeovil to play Notts County in the other semi-final.

Jack Muldoon’s goal was enough to see Harrogate book their first ever trip to Wembley and goals from Kristian Dennis and Callum Roberts saw Notts beats the Bees 2-0.

All of which means that this is just a second game in five months for both of today’s sides.

Harrogate Town 'on cusp of something special', says boss Simon Weaver

Veteran Harrogate striker Jon Stead has waited a long time to play at Wembley.

In a career that has seen him play in all of England’s top five divisions, this will be the 37-year-old first appearance at the national stadium.

If that wasn’t enough, Stead joined Town from Notts County last summer after four seasons with the Magpies.

"It is a real fairytale journey," Stead told BBC East Midlands Today.

"There is just a really good togetherness about it and a group of lads who are desperate to go and better themselves.

"For a club like us, at the minute every week we are making history.”

Stead starts today's game on the bench. Full team news coming up shortly.
