  1. Goodnightpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

It was not a thriller, but as is so often the case with Scottish football, there was still some drama.

It's great to have every team in the league playing again, and the Dons have shown they are still a force to be reckoned with - even without playing that well and also playing without a recognised striker.

You can watch the game back on Sportscene at 22:45, on BBC One Scotland.

Join us this weekend for more Scottish Premiership action, but until then, goodbye!

  3. 'We lacked quality in final third' - Davidsonpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

St Johnstone lacked quality in the final third, according to manager Callum Davidson.

"I thought we defended really well, we snapped into tackles, put Aberdeen under pressure," he told BBC Sportsound. "It's the final third we lacked that little bit of quality.

"For me it had 0-0 written all over that game. It was a poor goal, we could stop it at the source better, and then we didn't move the ball well enough after that.

"If they scored a great goal and opened you up you can say well played, but they didn't do that all game, so it is hard to take. But it will be quickly forgotten about - we have a game on Sunday. We will look at what we can do better and move forward."

Derek McInnes needs something upfront - his strikers are all out long-term. So, that is a must, and you see tonight didn't work with Lewis Ferguson upfront, he needs someone in

  6. 'It was all about getting that win' - McInnespublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes says his side "will do better" but earning their first win of the season was the most important thing.

"In light of everything, the stop-start nature of our campaign, just getting up and running, it was all about getting that first win no matter how you get it," he told BBC Sportsound.

"It's a difficult place to come, they set up to frustrate and counter-attack. That said, we know we can do better and we'll do better as we go along.

"We were too slow, but restricted them to one shot on target. Delighted to come away from a tough venue with all three points."

  11. FULL-TIME!published at 21:23 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

Ryan Hedges was the unlikely hero tonight, as his deflected shot found the back of the net just a couple of minutes after he came off the bench.

It was not a classic match, but Aberdeen will be happy to have come away from McDiarmid Park with three points, despite playing the entire game without a real recognised striker.

    St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeen

Some late Aberdeen substitutions as they try to keep the lead, with Wright, McNamara and Gordon going off for Robertson, Rooney and Logan. The Dons players are currently all camped in their own third, with St Johnstone not looking like finding an equaliser here.

  14. GOAL! St Johnstone 0-1 Aberdeenpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Ryan Hedges

We have a goal! And it was a bit of a fluke, it has to be said. Ryan Hedges - the substitute - drives in from the right to take a shot just inside the box. His deflected shot trickles past Elliot Parish in goal. That's Aberdeen's first goal of the new season.

  15. Is there a late winner in this game?published at 21:10 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Less than 10 minutes left in this one for someone to get a goal. Can either side break the deadlock? Thumbs up for a last-gasp winner, thumbs down for it to fizzle out.

  16. Postpublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Matty Kennedy puts in a superb cross from the right, but Aberdeen are lacking a striker to put the head on that. That would have been one Sam Cosgrove could have got on the end of.

Some changes for the Saints, as Isaac Olaofe comes on for David Wotherspoon, and shortly before Craig Conway came on for Callum Hendry.

It's a great ball in from McGinn and you're expecting it to be attacked with more aggression from Hoban, who tried to glance it in.

  19. CLOSE!published at 20:59 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Not a bad delivery from Niall McGinn with a free-kick down the left side, and Tommie Hoban rises highest, but is unable to find the target with his header. Great chance to break the deadlock there.
