Callum Hendry hits the post! It was some dig that... And another warning for Aberdeen.

Danny McNamara with a great solo effort there, he cuts in from the right and hits a very decent shot - Joe Lewis tips it over the bar for a corner. Callum Davidson's side look comfortable...

  4. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Ross McCrorie is a bright young Scottish prospect. He can play midfield and defence and it's really impressive support from the Aberdeen board to make the signing happen during the pandemic.

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

Michael Ruth is on the bench for Aberdeen tonight - he was born in 2002!

That means the 18-year-old was not alive when the first Harry Potter film came out...

Should he come off the bench to make his competitive debut for the Dons?

  10. Ferguson up top...published at 19:19 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

    Billy Dodds

    Quote Message

Reliable sources say it's Lewis Ferguson playing upfront tonight. McGinn and Wright wide. Ferguson has never played as a striker as far as I know...

  11. 'Proud' moment for Saints bosspublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson is "proud and privileged" to take charge of his first home game.

The former skipper, who replaced Tommy Wright in the summer, told BBC Scotland Sportsound: "The players' attitude and willingness to win has been the biggest thing for me since I came in. It's something we want to keep going.

"I'm not going to change too much what Tommy did before me, I'll just try to improve little things I want to bring to the team."

  12. 'I've never had all four centre-forwards out...' - McInnespublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes discussed his lack of options this evening up top.

"We've nine out in total I think," he told BBC Sportsound. "I don't think I've ever had my four centre-forwards all out.

"I'm grateful to get a few of the lads back in on Monday, but mindful they haven't done training for 10 or 12 days. We've put a team out that gives us a chance to go and win the game against a good St Johnstone team.

"We've not got an out-and-out striker there. Young Michael Ruth is on the bench, who is 18, and he gives us that option. We'll try to adapt and hopefully still carry a threat."

  13. 'Midfield need to be forward thinking'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

    Richard Foster
Partick Thistle defender on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

It's important Aberdeen's midfield offer a lot more in an attacking sense because they don't have that focal point up front. They'll need to give the front three the ball to feet as St Johnstone's defence will just eat up long balls.

  14. Aberdeen best place to show what I can do - McCroriepublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

    Ross McCrorieImage source, SNS

Debutant Ross McCrorie says Aberdeen is the best place for him to prove himself after leaving Rangers.

"Ever since the start of Pompey, I was wanting to leave anyway. I came back from Pompey and told the club [Rangers] that I wanted to leave.

"Aberdeen is the best place for me to go and show what I can do. It was a no-brainer."

Do you think McCrorie will be a success at Aberdeen?

  15. 'There is a bit of sympathy' - Davidsonpublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

St Johnstone manager Callum DavidsonImage source, SNS

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson says he feels for Derek McInnes and Aberdeen after their season was halted for players breaking Covid-19 rules.

"It's a difficult time, it's an unknown time, and unfortunately Aberdeen were the club [where] something happened," he said.

"I think we all got a little shock and a fright with it all. Hopefully not just people in football but people in the whole of Scotland, because it's so important we stick to the rules and we try and get rid of this terrible pandemic we're in.

“It was unfortunate it was Aberdeen, it could have been St Johnstone or any other team so there is a little bit of sympathy there."

  16. 'It's clear we won't be at our best' - McInnespublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

    Derek McInnesImage source, SNS

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes says the club have "taken a kicking" for their players breaking Covid-19 rules, and consequently having matches delayed.

"We have only played one competitive game in 6 months, so it is clear that we are not going to be at our best, but we have still got to be good enough to try and win the game.

"I am quite relaxed by the fact we are 2 and 3 games behind, we can quickly make those games up. It has been far from ideal but the boys are bursting to play.

"We've taken a kicking the last couple of weeks. It was our turn. We took it, we dealt with it and we now move on. I think there's been enough comment, enough criticism, enough apologies made."

  20. Can O'Halloran be the difference again?published at 18:39 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    St Johnstone v Aberdeen (19:30)

Michael O'Halloran redeemed himself by scoring a winner against Kilmarnock in the 94th minute last weekend - it was his first game back from suspension following a red card in the first game of the season.

The number 11 was by far the player furthest forward for the Saints against Killie, and got his reward.

Can he do the same tonight against Aberdeen?
