    Engen

How disappointing for Glasgow City, who lose a second goal from a set play - a cross from the right, City's defence is flat-footed and Norwegian midfielder Ingrid Engen nods the ball down into the turf and into the net.

The one-two on the edge of the box was magnificent. Harder's shot was straight down the middle and Lee Alexander will be disappointed she didn't save it.

    Harder

It's six goals in five Champions league matches for the Dane Pernille Harder. She comes in from the right wing, plays a one-two and clips a shot past Lee Alexander, who seems to be wrong-footed.

  4. City pressed backpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City 0-0 Wolfsburg

Zaneta Wyne makes an important tackle as the Germans attack and Janine van Wyk takes no chances as she hoofs the ball to relative safety - but Wolfsburg pick the ball up quickly and attack down the right again. Joelle Wedemeyer is given too much time in the box and City can be thankful her touch let her down.

  6. Wrong!published at 17:10 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City 0-0 Wolfsburg

Cypriot forward Krysyna Freyda is unfairly called offside when she was racing away from the Wolfsburg defence - the new City player was in her own half when the ball was launched from defence!

  7. Wolfsburg threatenpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City 0-0 Wolfsburg

Svenja Hurth is the first player in bright green to trouble the Scots, but the German striker's cross drifts past Lee Alexander's right-hand post. It's a case of settling into the match for City. Maybe that Leanne Ross miss-hit with the free-kick was early nerves.

  8. Early errorpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City 0-0 Wolfsburg

Leanne Ross has the chance to launch a free-kick from the left into the Wolfsburg box but doesn't make a great connection. That was poor - I'm sure she'll be keen to make amends for that wasted opportunity.

  11. No time to get to know one anotherpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

BBC Scotland presenter Steven Thompson: "When you've got really experienced players like Janine van Wyk it negates not having played together but there's nothing like playing together to get to know one another's intricacies, especially at centre-half."

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

South Africa skipper Janine van Wyk says she is trying to make the most of her remaining time as a player. The 33-year-old was contacted by Laura Montgomery, City's team manager, to sound her out about a move to Glasgow. She has played in World Cups and the Olympics and now, wearing number five for Glasgow, the defender will play in the Champions League.

  13. Ready from the first minutepublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

You imagine the one-legged format of this quarter-final makes it more likely that we could see a shock result.

Stephan Lerch, the Wolfsburg head coach, thinks so. He told the Uefa website: "It makes it very exciting, this format. You have to be ready from the first minute; you don't have a second chance. Maybe for the underdogs it's a chance, if there are any at this stage, with the help of some luck to land a surprise. We are aware of that and want to avoid that. It's a new experience for us."

  14. Silver and Bronzepublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

The scale of the task facing Glasgow should not be underestimated. Wolfsburg Ladies won the tournament in 2012-13, their debut season in Europe. They matched that victory over Lyon at Stamford Bridge the following season when they defeated financially stricken Tyreso in Lisbon. The Germans have made two Champions League final appearances since, losing to Lyon in 2016 and 2018.

England full-back Lucy Bronze will hope to help Lyon to another title. When asked on BBC Radio 5 Live who their toughest opponents might be, Bronze replied: "Wolfsburg. They're on the other side of the draw to us, so if we were to play them it would have to be in the final. They've got a really good squad."

Celtic going for 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row? A hugely impressive feat, no doubt, but consider this: a week before that penalty shoot drama against Brondby Glasgow City won their 13th consecutive domestic title. The SWPL 2020 season began briefly in February but, like most sport across the globe, it was closed down in March because of the pandemic and the league season has since been declared null and void.

  16. Wolfsburg, the serial winnerspublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

Worryingly for Glasgow City head coach Scott Booth, Wolfsburg have been playing regularly while other teams have been in lockdown. They won the German title in June, their sixth Frauen Bundesliga trophy in eight seasons, Bayern Munich the winners in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Since then, they have been training and playing friendly matches.

  17. 'Tricky' preparationspublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

Now, Scott Booth has had precious little time to prepare his women for the match. In fact, City have played only one competitive match since last November - a 2-1 defeat by Celtic in February in East Kilbride on the opening day of the aborted season. Since then, as lockdown was gradually eased, the squad has trained in two and threes until the players were permitted to train in their usual group.

However, they have managed to squeeze in only one bounce game as other teams are still not training at the level required to provide decent opposition. The preparations are anything but ideal but, as Booth put it: "It's either that or we don't play a quarter-final. It's been a very testing time for everybody. It's been very tricky."

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

Glasgow City team manager Laura Montgomery: "We're delighted to be here. We all had three tests on Sunday alone. Through the help of [philanthropist] James Anderson we managed to fly here on a chartered plane. Apart from training I have not left the hotel so it's as safe as it could possibly be. We [the teams] are all in separate hotels with our own drivers. It's been a challenge returning to play so quickly. We've had injuries and niggles. Scott hasn't had a full team to train with - that's a side effect of coming back so quickly."

  20. Hooray from Holyroodpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

Now, I'm not sure if German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been on social media to wish the Wolfsburg Ladies team "viel gluck", but City appear to have a fan in the form of Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon...
