  2. Three of the 'old guard' in City line-uppublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

Scott Booth is starting with five of Glasgow City's new signings, while three players survive from the team that reached the 2014-15 quarter-finals - Lee Alexander, Leanne Ross and Jo Ross. Veteran Ross passe a late fitness test to take part.

While Glasgow City have been inactive on the playing front, the same cannot be said about their transfer dealings. Striker Krystyna Freda arrived with a record of 12 goals in eight Champions League games over the past two seasons for clubs in Cyprus.

South Africa captain Janine van Wyk also joined Scott Booth's side and she will be joined in defence by another new recruit, full-back Zaneta Wyne. City have signed midfielders Lauren Wade and Sharon Wojcik while Aoife Colvil is the addition up front.

  4. Which teams are in the quarter-finals?published at 16:21 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

City, Wolfsburg and the six other remaining teams are in northern Spain where the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played over nine days. The matches are all one-legged and will be played behind closed doors.

The games will be played in Bilbao's San Mames Stadium and San Sebastian's Anoeta Stadium (currently known as the Reale Arena). City take on Wolfsburg in the latter and it's that stadium that will host the final on 30 August.

Lyon are going for their fifth Women's Champions League title in a row. Arsenal join Glasgow City as the other British team remaining in the competition. Atletico Madrid and Barcelona play an all-Spanish last-eight tie this evening. Tomorrow Arsenal play PSG and Bayern Munich have the task of unseating Lyon. I wonder if Bayern Munich could be crowned European champions in the men's and women's Champions League.

My colleague Tom Garry has written a great scene-setter.

  6. Last-eight tie a long time comingpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 21 August 2020

    Glasgow City v Wolfsburg (17:00)

Incredibly, Glasgow City's astonishing last-16 second-leg tie against Brondby took place last October on a crisp autumn night in Glasgow. Leading 2-0 from the first leg in Denmark, City looked hot favourites to proceed to the last eight for only the second time in their history. However, Nanna Christiansen and Frederikke Lindhard had the tie at 2-2 on aggregate by half-time in the return leg and somehow City survived several goalmouth scrambles to take the game to extra-time and penalties.

Thanks to an inspired performance by Scotland goalkeeper Lee Alexander, Scott Booth's team won the shootout to spark joyous scenes among the part-time players and fans.

Good afternoon and welcome to our coverage of what should be a memorable evening for Scottish football. The women from Petershill Park are in San Sebastian to take on Wolfsburg Ladies in the Champions League quarter finals. Think about it - a Scottish team is in the last eight of the premier club competition for women's football in Europe. That's no mean feat.
