    Chelsea

Chelsea defender Millie Bright, speaking to BBC One: "I scored at City away and that was pretty decent but scoring at Wembley is unbelievable. What a start because we are going for a lot of trophies this year.

"We were always confident. Both teams have new players but we focus on ourselves. It was tense. Never in doubt that we would score but we were a little rusty in front of goal."

Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert: "I had a tough pre-season and I wasn't sure I would make the game. The medical staff got me back fit so the goal it is for them. It is a shame there are no fans to run to and celebrate.

"We want to retain our title. We have recruited well. It is the small details. If everyone goes 1% up we can compete again."

The champagne is spraying as Chelsea lift the Community Shield. There's nobody here to watch it happen but try telling the Blues players it doesn't mean anything.

Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC One

Overall Chelsea were more organised, more professional, more powerful. Their centre-halves were the key to their win.

Millie Bright is 30 yards out, it’s an incredible strike. You’d expect the keeper to do better but there was movement on the shot.

    Laura Bassett
Former England defender on BBC One

Chelsea looked the team with most intent, attacking prowess. They went forward with more purpose. I’m sure they’ll look at that as the first trophy, more to come – instead of as closure on last season.

It’s a big sign, the amount of trophies they’re going after. If Sam Kerr is having a bad day they can bring on Erin Cuthbert or Beth England. Emma Hayes has the squad to make impactful changes.

They have a settled squad. Emma is adding stardust but the players already there have played a lot of games together. They have a solid foundation to work on.

It's a great ball in. And that's what Erin does best. As soon as the ball's at her feet, there's no way she's going to miss. The manager knows that's game, set and match.

    Erin Cuthbert

    Job done.

Chelsea make sure of the win as Mjelde's low ball is only half-cleared to near the edge of the area by a diving City defender. Erin Cuthbert follows up and fires the ball into the roof of the net.

Who is the player of the match?

It's a tough one. But I've gone with Ji So-yun.

She's dictated play really well, she's controlled the pace of the game. She's so technically good. I've played with her and I know how much of a difference she makes.

The sending off has really hindered Manchester City. Losing one of your most experienced players. Chelsea are dominant in that midfield area. It's 3 v 2 in there. What do you do if you're Manchester City? If you match them up you have got no outlet.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 82 mins

    Chelsea 1-0 Man City

Here comes Ellen White to provide a bit more of a physical presence in attack for City. They've offered nothing in that regard in the last 15 minutes. She was joint top-scorer in the 2019 World Cup with six goals, so she certainly knows where the net is.

    Stanway departs.

It comes after Steph Houghton received a bit of treatment for an elbow to the head by her own keeper as City cleared another Chelsea ball into the middle.
