Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward speaking to BBC Match of the Day on the handball rule: "It is [confusing]. When you look at the motion and the momentum [of players], it's very hard to play with your arms behind your back. It is what it is, we have to dust ourselves down and go again. There will be conversations about [the penalty decision] I'm sure.

"Unfortunately it went against us, we can't dwell on that now. Let's not take away from the fact we have started well. We're making it hard for people to beat us, were limiting the amount of efforts and chances against us and from front to back we are well-drilled.

"So far it is going well for us. The restart was a strange period, as it was for all clubs, and at the start of the new season you have to forget what was and focus on what is."

    West Bromwich Albion

    • West Brom have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side so far this season (8); indeed, their eight goals against is the most they’ve ever shipped in their first two games of a league campaign.
    • Chelsea have just kept one clean sheet in their 20 Premier League away games under manager Frank Lampard, winning 2-0 at Spurs in December 2019. The Blues’ last league clean sheet outside of London came in May 2019 (0-0 vs Leicester).

  4. 'We want to be successful'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Crystal Palace 1-2 Everton

    Everton

Everton skipper Seamus Coleman: "Very satisfying, Crystal Palace started the season strongly so it was a big game for both teams. We did not play that well but we knew we were up against a tough team and delighted to go back up the road with all three points.

"James Rodriguez is very exciting, from day one we could see the quality he has in training and he has brought that into games. A great lad but Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan have been so important for us, the three new signings have been fantastic.

"Allan plays that role fantastic, Idrissa Gueye played it but now it gives us licence to get forward.

"Being a defender in this day and age is hard enough with wingers but then to be thinking about your hand in the box is tough.

"When I spoke to the lads, it is about day to day and being professional and not getting carried away with wins and not get too down with defeats. We want to be successful at this football club as you can see with the finances and the manager we have."

Richard: We’ll play better and not win. Handball rule needs to change. Will take the points all day!

It's a phenomenal start to the season. It's another win, another goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and another brilliant performance from James Rodriguez.

Everton are on form, they're on fire and everything seems to be going their way.

That's all down to Carlo Ancelotti. He's given them an identity and he has brought in some quality players.

Steve Redding: We wuz robbed! Not by Everton. They played the game. But by VAR and a very dodgy decision.

Crystal Palace just didn't quite do enough. They had more possession than normal and Everton just stood off in the second half, but the home side haven't shown the creative flair to really trouble Jordan Pickford.

I feel Everton have edged it in terms of quality and opportunities created, possibly, but a draw would be a fair result for me. The manner of the defeat, if it does stay like this, would be hard to take for Crystal Palace.

It's not a surprise to me that James Rodriguez has been substituted. First half for me he was fabulous, but second half he has not featured much in the game. You have to take the rough with the smooth with him. He can win you matches, but managing Rodriguez right is a real skill.
