I love reading these feeds and watching the disgruntled messages come in from mediocre teams and fans who believe they should be winning trophies and challenging for Europe! It's much better being a Palace fan, usually going out in the 1st round and being pleasantly surprised by any victory.

They are doing better than OK! That was a bad clash though, Andy Carroll the meat in a Newport sandwich and the two defenders coming off worse.

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Big chance for Newcastle! Newport are undone by a long ball over the top and Ryan Fraser is in on goal. Nick Townsend;s positioning is good and Fraser has a decision to make, he tries to go around the keeper and loses out.

The game is then stopped as two County defenders clash heads.

Will James Tarkowski be at Burnley next week?

The England defender makes his first appearance of the season after recovering from a toe injury.

Having already turned down three bids from West Ham for the 27-year-old centre-back, Burnley rejected a £30m offer from Premier League rivals Leicester City for Tarkowski this month.

Tarkowski has been at Burnley since 2016 and has made 143 appearances for Sean Dyche's side.

The 2020 summer transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Monday.

Newport midfielder Scott Twine has probably been the best player on the pitch and he has yet another sighter from 25 yards, hitting this one too close to Mark Gillespie though.

Newcastle need to raise this big time.

What a brilliant bit of defending! Good start from Newcastle as Ryan Fraser floats over a fine cross, Jacob Murphy looks all set to score with the volley but Mickey Demetriou flies across to make the block.

Marc Richards: Watching NUFC here and as usual, the passiveness and lack of urgency really should be addressed. The lower league team are clearly more fired up for this and could be out of sight already

Is Andy Carroll scared to try and score a goal? He's nowhere to be seen when in the opposition box. Murphy looks our only decent attacker

Stick a tenner on this - Newport lead until the 93rd min, when Newcastle are awarded a controversial penalty for handball. They equalise and go on to win on penalties. THEN they draw Spurs in the next round and lead 1-0 until, deep into stoppage time, Spurs are awarded a controversial penalty for handball against Andy Carroll. With Kane already substituted, the penalty duties fall to...Eric Dier, who scores and takes Spurs into the semi finals. You heard it here first.

    Poyner in Harborne

For those who missed it, Newcastle were awarded a 97th-minute penalty against Tottenham on Sunday after Eric Dier was penalised for handball - a decision which led to Steve Bruce claiming football has "lost the plot" with the new handball ruling.

Poyner believes he has it all figured out, though...

Jezz: Newcastle have their record win Vs Newport (13-0), although the last time they met (1947) Newport won 4-2. Rather hoping for a repeat performance tonight! Started well enough!

Ian Taylor: Why is Shelvey playing? He can't be bothered to play against the smaller clubs in the premier league let alone against Newport.

Robert Enright: Am not sure what Shelvey actually brings to the team? He is praised constantly for his vision and technique but he just looks like a passenger.

Despite a big game at Leeds on Saturday, Pep Guardiola has made just four changes from the Manchester City side thumped 5-2 at home by Leicester last Sunday.

It's a big night for Cole Palmer, the Wythenshawe-born 18-year-old who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a striker. He is making his senior debut.

Palmer, who joined City at under-8s level, has been training with the first team since the Premier League restart in June.

Last season he was captained the under-18s and has been capped by England at every level from under-15 to under-18.

Kris Jefferson: I know it’s early in the season, but if Newcastle lose this I feel Bruce may already be on borrowed time. He’s finally got Ashley to spend some money and he will expect better results and performances than this awfulness.

Not really sure what formation NUFC are playing, players swapping all over the place and not in a LFC front 3 sort of a way. What is the plan SB?

    Mike (not Ashley)

In response to Beansy (17:56) Steve Bruce has been in charge for more than a season. Don't blame Rafa for this performance, blame Bruce. No tactics, or even a recognisable game plan, not good enough and needs to go.
