  1. CLOSE!published at 45 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Really could, and should be 2-0 to the League Two side! A fine ball from Liam Shephard is not dealt with by Javier Manquillo, who just nods it straight to Padraig Amond.

He drills in a rising shot which fizzes inches over!

Sam: Even Pardew showed some tactical changes now and then despite mostly being rubbish, Bruce doesn't seem to have any sort of plan at all...

  3. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Close to 2-0! The sun's glare off a semi-detached over the road is causing all sorts of problems for the TV guys and they nearly miss a goal. Scot Bennett has a swing at the ball and doesn't make a proper connection on it, much like Jonjo Shelvey a moment ago, but he nearly tops it into the top corner.

Jacob Murphy then shoots wide straight away at the other end. A long way from dull this one!

  4. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Chance! Oh dear a complete miscue from Jonjo Shelvey! He's only about six yards out and the ball is nodded down to him, any sort of proper connection and he scores but he wafts a stud at the ball and it barely reaches.

David Ljunggren: Newcastle wouldn’t be Newcastle without the annual cup humbling by a smaller club. It’s part of our fine tradition. This way we can focus instead on messing up our chances of staying up.

  8. Postpublished at 38 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

The setting sun is causing havoc for the camera operator at Rodney Parade, and maybe the Newcastle defence too. Blinding, straight down the lens as County force a couple of corners.

  9. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Jacob Murphy's Newcastle career has never really kicked on but he's proving to be a proper nuisance to Newport tonight. He charges through the middle from a great Andy Carroll touch but Brandon Cooper makes a goal-saving challenge.

The ball is then fizzed in from the right and Ryan Fraser can't quite meet it on the slide. Newcastle having another strong spell.

If Newcastle can't beat Newport then Steve Bruce should be sacked.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 31 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Padraig Amond goes into the book for catching Javier Manquillo with a swinging arm and he's given the full-back a fat lip. Nothing too deliberate about that I don't think...

  12. CLOSE!published at 28 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Matty Dolan lines up the free-kick, there's a pretty inviting space over the wall to aim at and for a second I thougt he'd done it - he drifts it wide though as the rain and mist returns to Rodney Parade.

  13. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Scott Twine is on loan from Swindon, he's the best player on the pitch at the moment. Again he threatens to shoot from range and Jonjo Shelvey has to bring him down.

Poor start from brucie's boys. They need to get on the front foot, but the defensive habits learned under Rafa are tough to shake!

Poor challenge from Tristan Abrahams, who doesn't read Miguel Almiron's turn and ends up sliding right through his heels. The Paraguayan is not happy and refuses a conciliatory handshake.

  17. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Scott Twine, the man who rattled the crossbar for Newport's opener, threatens a long-range steamer again but instead serves up a lovely disguised clip to the far post where Scot Bennett heads into the side-netting.

Newcastle then force Nick Townsend into action, a low shot Jacob Murphy is well saved. Good game!

  18. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

The first we've seen of Ryan Fraser down the Newcastle left as he burns past one man but then sees his cross well cut out. Newport break and nearly get goalscorer Tristan Abrahams in behind once again but Emil Krafth just about deals with it.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16 mins

    Newport County 1-0 Newcastle

Newport playing some really good stuff now, bossing it in midfield as Jonjo Shelvey has enough and slides through Scott Twine. Bad tackle, in the book.

That is what you call a good conversion rate. He's only 21, could get a move before the window shuts at this rate...
