    Gabriel Jesus (2 mins)

    Wow!

City stream forward for the first time, Phil Foden plays it wide to Oleksandr Zinchenko and his delivery is met by the unmarked Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazil forward somehow finds space among three Arsenal centre backs to head home from close range.

I'm not sure Arsenal have even touched the ball.

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola tells Sky Sports it is still a "little bit strange" to be facing his former assistant Mikel Arteta and expects a tough test against Arsenal.

Asked why he has named the team he has, Guardiola adds: "To win the game."

On Sergio Aguero being on the substitutes bench: "Maybe he will come on. He's not ready for 90 minutes yet."

Richard: I don't know about prioritising the league, lose tonight and surely Arteta has to go? Saving Arsenal from relegation isn't exactly a feather in the cap.

Alf Wilson: Don't want to rain on Arsenal's parade before they've kicked off but that starting XI doesn't bode well. Can only assume Arteta isn't prioritising the EFL Cup. Then again, would their regulars fare any better.

  14. 'Arteta might be looking for something different'published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

You look at the young players coming in tonight and all of them have direct running, drive, determination, running off the ball; those type of qualities that Arsenal haven't shown in the last few games.

In terms of the season, I think Mikel Arteta is using this as a chance to rest players but he might also be looking to find something a little bit different.

Toontruth: Bruce has to go. We all knew he was out of his depth, only Charnley who cannot attract anyone of any standard thought he could get away with it.

  16. Another quarter-final exit for Newcastle - the statspublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Brentford 1-0 Newcastle

    • For the first time, Brentford have reached the semi-final of a major domestic cup competition (FA Cup/League Cup), winning their first such quarter-final tie at the fifth attempt.
    • Only Arsenal (13), Norwich, Southampton and Spurs (all nine) have suffered more League Cup quarter-final eliminations than Newcastle United (eight).
    • Before this season, Brentford had eliminated top-flight opponents in two of their 22 League Cup ties; however, the Bees have now knocked out twice as many in this season’s competition alone (4/4).
    • Steve Bruce has lost five of his six quarter-final matches as a manager (won one), including losing each of his two such ties as Newcastle boss (also 0-2 v Man City in FA Cup last season).
    • Since the start of last season, 10 of Josh Dasilva’s 14 Brentford goals have come in matches played at home.
    • Dasilva has scored 15 goals for Brentford since joining the club for the 2018-19 campaign – of players currently at the club, only Ivan Toney (16) and Bryan Mbeumo (19) have managed more for the Bees.
  17. 'Feet on the ground'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

    FT: Brentford 1-0 Newcastle

Brentford goal hero Josh Dasilva, speaking to Sky Sports: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game but we kept to the game plan and the players dug deep."

On beating a fourth Premier League team in this season's competition: "We just missed out on automatic promotion but I don't think we are too far off. This club has a good bunch of lads who have belief.

"We have to keep our feet on the ground because there are some big teams left in the cup."

  18. Martinelli full of 'energy and passion'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (20:00 GMT)

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have to rotate the squad. We have had some injuries and we've had to leave some players out. We have players who have played a lot of minutes.

"You need a competitive edge against opponents like Manchester City. Individual battles are key to winning games like this."

On starting young Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli: "He is full of energy and passion. We will see how he gets on.

"He has only played 45 minutes with the Under-23s and some minutes against Everton. Let's see how he copes with it."

  19. 'Arsenal must prioritise league'published at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (20:00 GMT)

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

My priority, if I was Mikel Arteta, would be the Premier League. I just think Arsenal need to focus on the league.

It could stop the rot in terms of picking up a decent result tonight and build momentum. I wouldn't want to risk any injuries and with Chelsea, Brighton and West Brom next, I hate to say it but Brighton and West Brom are two must-win games for Arsenal, so I would focus on that.

That's the reality of where Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are at and they have to prioritise the Premier League at this moment in time.

  20. The history...published at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2020

Arsenal v Manchester City (20:00 GMT)

Tonight's second quarter-final is actually a repeat of the 2018 showpiece, when Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley.

In fact, the Gunners' recent record against City in the competition isn't great - they have lost the last three encounters between the sides. City were also victorious when the sides met at this stage in 2009-10 and 2011-12.

City have won this competition in each of the past three years - beating Aston Villa 2-1 in front of a crowd of more than 82,000 at Wembley in the 2020 final at the beginning of March.
