Brentford are getting good play from Josh Dasilva. He's peeling out into the wider areas, he tries to overload on the full-back of the Newcastle defence and play little through balls. Brentford are really trying to get down the sides but they have to make these set-plays count now.

Ooof. Newcastle only half clear and Ciaran Clark is forced into two blocks in quick succession, the first from Sergi Canos and then from a fierce Christian Norgaard drive to head it behind for another corner.

Josh Dasilva and Sergi Canos combine on the right to force a corner for Brentford. Great movement from the hosts when they're in possession, just need to make one of these set-pieces count.

I think Steve Bruce has had enough. He's sent Dwight Gayle out and go and get warm because they need something else up top. Brentford should be two nil up really, they have had good opportunities and have been defensively solid. Bruce got to change something and it looks like he thinks bringing on Gayle is the answer.

Steve Bruce's side only half clear and Saman Ghoddos slices a half-volley on target, but it's an easy take for Karl Darlow.

I still think it's a little bit early for Ivan Toney. I think Brentford have been really good defensively, really good shape. Attacking-wise, they may need that little bit of an edge but it's still too early yet.

Josh Dasilva is such a tidy player.

He drops a shoulder in midfield to send two Newcastle players the wrong way and then spreads the ball right for Tariqe Fosu, who drives a low ball into the area. It deflects away off a yellow shirt and Brentford cry for a penalty, but it's just a throw-in.

Steve Bruce has his head in his hands thinking 'we have missed a fantastic chance there!' But I have to commend the recovery run from Brentford's Dominic Thompson - fantastic.

Oops. Jonjo Shelvey goes for an outside-of-the-boot pass to Jamal Lewis but finds too much toe and punts it straight out for a throw-in. He's allowed one of those.

There's a bit more pressing from Newcastle in the second half. I feel like Steve Bruce has gone in and said they were too passive, they are a very good side Brentford and you can't give them that much time. Newcastle have really stepped the intensity up.

Great tracking back from Dominic Thompson to deny Jacob Murphy after a blistering Newcastle break down the right. The winger just took too long to pull the trigger.

Tariqe Fosu has done really well defensively but I really like him getting forward. He can really cause a threat down that right-hand side, getting the crosses into the box.

Ciaran Clark gets a toe to a dangerous low ball into the box. Emiliano Marcondes was already mid-swing waiting for that one to arrive... important block from the Newcastle defender.

Nice footwork from Jonjo Shelvey before spreading it wide to Ryan Fraser. He pops it back to Jamal Lewis and the left-back's delivery is headed over by Callum Wilson.

Good start to the second half for Newcastle.
