It's going to come eventually, it really is.

You feel that City will eventually take one of these opportunities.

City counter - the new threat for a much more adventurous Spurs side this half - and it's Phil Foden who drives his side forward.

He feeds the ball to Riyad Mahrez, who looks poised to shoot on his left, but he turns back onto his right and his weak attempt is closed down.

    Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Pep Guardiola isn't looking to pleased with what he's witnessed since the restart.

His side attempt to reassert themselves, but Riyad Mahrez is run off the ball.

  6. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Man City 0-0 Tottenham

Harry Kane is composed in possession and holds the ball up to allow his team-mates to get forward.

It paves the way for a decent spell of Spurs possession in the City half, but an over-hit pass out to Serge Aurier puts an end to it.

Anon: Score of 0-0, shots on target 1-0. Seems pretty even, unless possession actually counts for anything...

OCube71: The simple reason City might lose today and on Wednesday....Very good team but very wasteful in front of goal

City respond with an attack of their own, but Kevin de Bruyne is quickly closed down before he can get a shot away after cutting back onto his left foot.

A nice, lively start to the second half!

    New half, new Spurs?

Lucas Moura knocks the ball into the path of Giovani Lo Celso, who whips a low shot from the edge of the penalty area towards the bottom corner and Zack Steffen is at full stretch to touch it past the post. Great effort!

Anon: Whilst we debate how Spurs are still in this, can we acknowledge that Laporte should be off for 2 clear yellows?

You would expect he won't be allowed to get away with much else following that first half...

Manchester United's failure to beat Leeds United earlier today means Manchester City will be crowned Premier League champions next weekend if Pep Guardiola's side beat Crystal Palace on Saturday - and second-placed United lose at home to Liverpool on Sunday.

First things first though. The second half is coming up shortly!

It was an enjoyable first half for the Manchester City fans behind the Tottenham net, despite the lack of goals.

    Phil McNulty

This is a question plenty of people inside Wembley are asking themselves after a first 45 minutes of complete and utter domination from Manchester City.

City have been in total control and yet Spurs are still level, which means they are still right in this.

Little or nothing has been seen of Harry Kane, who was a big doubt for this League Cup Final after sustaining an ankle injury at Everton.

You would think these teams are 3 leagues apart such has been the dominance of City. Drastic changes needed for Spurs, but has Mason got the tactical nous to fix it?

Why aren't Man City ahead? No shots on target.

It's been an absolute mauling. Spurs are lucky to still be in the game and it's a big half-time for Ryan Mason.

Could it be one of those crazy afternoons and they end up winning this?

City are brilliant. They took the game to Spurs, created numerous opportunities but Spurs put in some last-ditch defending. City are in total control.

Just one minute added on and a final push from Manchester City for a breakthrough - but Eric Dier is able to boot the ball clear to signal the end of the first half.

    Somehow, Spurs go in level.

Well, Aymeric Laporte will need to behave himself now.

Spurs - and most others - will have felt he should have had a booking for an earlier challenge on Lucas Moura, but now he does go into the referee's book for another clumsy foul.

Something for Spurs to target in the second half.
