    Ajax 0-0 Liverpool

Ajax are really settling into this game now as Joe Gomez does well to stub out Nicolas Tagliafico's effort at the near post before Ryan Gravenberch slams an effort just wide of the post.

    Inter Milan 0-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Anyone fancy Inter to go deep in this season's Champions League?

Their team is packed with former Premier League players and they're already snapping at Borussia Monchengladbach, in the competition for the first time since 2016-17.

Former Manchester United player Matteo Darmian has headed an early chance over the bar while Christian Eriksen has drilled a free-kick straight at the keeper.

No chances for Romelu Lukaku so far.

    Sergio Aguero pen (21 mins)

    All square!

A pressure penalty for Sergio Aguero after he had a lengthy wait to take the spot kick but as soon as the referee blows his whistle he slams the ball into the bottom corner.

The keeper did dive the right way but the penalty was just too powerful.

  4. VAR

Video Assistant Referee - penalty checkpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

Wait, is the penalty going to be given? VAR is having a check for a potential foul.

After a lengthy pause the check is complete and the penalty decision stands.

  5. PENALTY TO MAN CITYpublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Man City 0-1 Porto

Drama as Manchester City are awarded a penalty!

Pepe clatters into Raheem Sterling after the forward got to a loose ball after Ilkay Gundogan's shot hit the post.

Agustin Marchesin, the Porto goalkeeper, injured himself trying to clear the initial danger, so Sergio Aguero is having to wait to take the spot kick as Marchesin is treated.

  6. Liverpool on the breakpublished at 20:16 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Ajax 0-0 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant play from Fabinho, two vital tackles in the penalty box. If he dives in and gets them wrong he's given a penalty away. Then it's all about the break and how quickly you can break on this Ajax team. Sadio Mane making the run down the side of the centre backs, he gets away but doesn't pick the right pass and Mohamed Salah was not a happy man.

  7. goal

GOAL - Man City 0-1 Portopublished at 20:15 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Luis Diaz (14 mins)

    A brilliant individual goal!

Luis Diaz is allowed to run across the edge of the area unchallenged before cutting inside and then thumping an effort into the bottom corner.

Diaz should have been stopped much earlier but no challenge came in and the visitors lead.

  8. CLOSE!published at 20:14 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Bayern Munich 0-0 Atletico Madrid

An excellent start for the visitors and Luis Suarez is inches away from putting them ahead. A Gazza Euro 96 stretch but he can't quite get a touch on Renan Lodi's low cross.

Cagey start at the Etihadpublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Manchester City 0-0 Porto

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

It's started very quietly at the Etihad, Manchester City have seen more of the ball and Porto without the ball seem all about containment. They've got three centre backs in what is essentially a 5-4-1 formation. Raheem Sterling is trying to get in down the left a bit but it's been pretty cagey so far in these early stages.

    Ajax 0-0 Liverpool

An Ajax attack breaks down and Liverpool counter quickly through Sadio Mane, who cuts inside before driving a shot at goal but Lisandro Martínez blocks the effort.

Ajax did have to make that early change, with the injured Mohammed Kudus replaced by Quincy Promes.

    Man City 0-0 Porto

Nicely weighted ball into the box by Joao Cancelo, Raheem Sterling runs onto it but is held off by a defender, allowing Agustin Marchesin to gather.

  12. Postpublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Man City 0-0 Porto

No shots yet as we approach the 10 minute mark. Porto are sitting very, very deep and are quite happy to let Manchester City have the ball.

  13. Postpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 21 October 2020

    Ajax 0-0 Liverpool

Early concern for Ajax with Mohammed Kudus down and appears to be struggling with an issue with his knee.

Erik ten Hag looks concerned as he paces up and down his technical area. He could be forced into an early change here.

    Man City 0-0 Porto

Manchester City thumped Porto 4-0 the last time these two sides met at the Etihad back in 2011-12. It has been a steady start to the game with neither side showing much in attack yet.

A few claps before kick-off is all you get when the CL anthem is done. The stadium announcer at the Etihad still pauses for applause that obviously never comes after reading out each City player’s name before kick-off.

Ed O'Toole: with Liverpool’s injury issues it now looks like a consolidation year. Back to a few years ago when we relied on scoring more than we conceded....

I'm disgusted that Garcia has been chosen ahead of Ake. Nathan has been excellent since his arrival, and Garcia doesn't even want to be at the club, and won't be for much longer.

The Etihad Stadium was packed to the rafters for City’s first Champions League match against Napoli, nine years ago. I covered that game and remember a countdown on the big screens inside the stadium pre-game and an electric atmosphere as the competition anthem was played.

We will still have that before kick-off, I suppose, but oh to have some supporters here tonight for City's 78th CL game.
