How did that stay out? It defied physics. It is amazing how he hits the post from that angle.

That might just give Manchester United a small lift. They have been pedestrian in general play.

Oh my word, how!? How has that not gone in?

A corner is flicked on and Harry Maguire is there at the back post, two yards out, but he puts his shot onto the woodwork and the ball flies across the face of goal before being scrambled behind.

That's as close as Manchester United have come.

Brahim Díaz lies down behind the wall - AC Milan are wise not to get caught out by the low drilled shot like their Italian rivals Juventus were earlier this week - but Alex Telles fires into the wall anyway.

More attacking down the left by Manchester United as Alex Telles rampages down the flank. He passes to Anthony Martial, who tries to sneak round a defender by the byline but can't keep the ball in play.

Stefano Pioli will be delighted by the way his team is playing. Apart from the Anthony Martial chance Manchester United haven't created anything.

Franck Kessie and Soualiho Meite are completely controlling the first half.

Better from Manchester United as Daniel James uses his pace to get in behind on the left. His cross is pushed into the middle of the box by Gianluigi Donnarumma before the flag eventually goes up to indicate James was offside.

A Manchester United attack breaks down and Brahim Díaz charges up the pitch quickly before playing in Alexis Saelemaekers, but his shot is denied by Dean Henderson.

Jon: This is why we’re so frustrating. Incredible performance, mentality, energy on Sunday to games like this. Another terrible, slow start. Must be 30 plus games like it this season!

Jonny G: Is the fact that Diego Dalot is doing a number on Aaron Wan-Bissaka irony or just poor planning?

Have to say, I'm impressed with AC Milan's approach to this game. They've not set up to keep it tight for as long as possible - far from it - they are attacking with every opportunity.

That was a fantastic through ball by Brahim Diaz for Davide Calabria, that probably should have created an opening.

Diaz was part of the Manchester City group that included Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden.

That was an unbelievable chance. Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka had switched off.

Wan-Bissaka gets the opportunity to recover because he took the extra touch..

AC Milan keep up the pressure as Rade Krunic gets the ball inside the box, steps inside Aaron Wan-Bissaka but his shot isn't a good one and Dean Henderson saves.

I think Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic need to be playing a bit higher and not letting AC Milan play their way out of trouble.

The team has a lack of cohesion to its play.

Rafael Leão tries to power past Eric Bailly on the right but the Manchester United defender defends well to hold off the AC Milan forward and pinch possession.
