Former Celtic manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer there's more eyes on him than the players, because the longer this goes on the expectation from Manchester United fans is yes, by all means have some progression but you need to start showing up with some silverware as well. They haven't won a trophy for four years so that needs to change.

  2. Emery offers Arteta advicepublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 29 April 2021

    Villarreal v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

Unai Emery, who was appointed by Villarreal in July 2020, is the most successful manager in Europa League history having won the trophy three times with Sevilla.

The Spanish boss led the Gunners to the final of the competition in May 2019, but they were convincingly beaten 4-1 by London rivals Chelsea in Baku.

Emery lost his job seven months later but Mikel Arteta says his predecessor was quick to offer advice when he took up the reins at Emirates Stadium.

"I spoke with him before I took the Arsenal job - he was really helpful," said Arteta. "He was honest and open with me and I'm very grateful because that's not common when someone is sacked.

"He did many good things with the club. I don't know why he was criticised."

  3. 'Arteta and Arsenal perfect marriage'published at 19:13 British Summer Time 29 April 2021

    Villarreal v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

Villarreal boss Unai Emery says Arsenal need to show patience with Mikel Arteta as the two managers prepare to face each other in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday.

Emery was sacked by the Gunners in November 2019 after 18 months in charge, with Arteta taking over a month later on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

"It's a question of patience. I think it's a perfect marriage," Emery said.

"Arteta is a great manager and you can see a clear identity of a gameplan."

    Villarreal v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

Arthur Okonkwo, who is on Arsenal's bench, is a 19-year-old goalkeeper. I think we're in for a pretty dramatic night if he gets mentioned again before we all go to bed.

Sulaimon: I am absolutely certain of an all English final in the Europa League and its all looking likely in the Champions league too. That indicates the competitiveness and the quality of the Premier League.

CM: Another strange line up by Arteta... anyway, time to tell me who Okonkwo is please. Hopefully a secret weapon of some kind

  7. Team news - Pepe up front?published at 19:03 British Summer Time 29 April 2021

    Villarreal v Arsenal (20:00 BST)

This is interesting. It looks like Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has gone all Pep Guardiola on us, not selecting an out-and-out striker. It looks like Nicolas Pepe will play up top, with Martin Odegaard just behind him.

Odegaard's selection is the only change from the team that lost their last game, 1-0 to Everton. He comes in for Eddie Nketiah.

Alexandre Lacazette is not fit enough to make the squad, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on the bench.

Arsenal: Leno, Chambers, Holding, Pablo Mari, Smith-Rowe, Ceballos, Thomas, Xhaka, Saka, Odegaard, Pepe.

Subs: Bellerin, Gabriel, Willian, Aubameyang, Cedric, Luiz, Nelson, Elneny, Nketiah, Ryan, Martinelli, Okonkwo. Referee: Artur Soraes Dias

Unai Emery makes two changes to the Villarreal side that lost 2-1 to Barcelona.

One of them comes in goal, with Gero Rulli replacing Sergio Asenjo.

Former Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno drops out of the side to be replaced by Alfonso Pedraza, who had a loan spell at Leeds during their time in the Championship in 2017.

On-loan Tottenham defender Juan Foyth starts.

Villarreal: Rulli, Foyth, Albiol, Torres, Pedraza, Parejo, Capoue, Trigueros, Gerard, Alcacer, Chukwueze.

Subs: Sergio Asenjo, Mario, Funes Mori, Bacca, Estupinan, Moreno, Coquelin, Jaume, Moi Gomez, Pino, Baena, Nino.

  8. De Gea gets the nodpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 29 April 2021

    Man Utd v Roma (20:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was coy yesterday when I asked him who would be in goal for tonight's game.

Solskjaer has gone with David de Gea and Dean Henderson on the bench.

There is a big decision to be made over who will be first choice next season.

It's the day after the big event. It's a huge comedown from last night. That's for sure.

I'm not talking about the Champions League and the Europa League.

I'm talking about yesterday being BBC live text legend Tom Rostance's last day.

Now you've got to make do with the rest of us forever.
