I'm going to sign off now on what has been a good night for Rangers and Celtic.

The Ibrox side made light work of a tricky looking tie in the Netherlands, while the Scottish champions left it late against stubborn opposition in Latvia.

The Old Firm pair are one game away from the group phase, while Aberdeen and Motherwell could not upset the odds away from home.

Look out for reaction from Steven Gerrard and Derek McInnes on the site and thanks for your company this evening.

  2. What next?published at 22:15 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

All of the teams in action tonight will resume Premiership duties on Sunday.

Celtic are at home to Hibernian, Motherwell host Rangers and Aberdeen go to Ross County.

On Saturday, we have Hamilton v Dundee United, Livingston v St Johnstone and St Mirren v Kilmarnock.

As ever, we'll have it all covered.

  3. McGregor lays down an impressive markerpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    FT: Willem II 0-4 Aberdeen

Allan McGregor was like a man possessed in goals for Rangers.

The 38-year-old pulled off some terrific saves and the close-range stop he made before Vangelis Pavlidis knocked in the rebound with his arm has to be seen to be believed.

Jon McLaughlin has been keeping him out in domestic games since an early season injury briefly sidelined the veteran but he has made a very strong case for a return.

It was a really comfortable night for Rangers. They can add another clean sheet and they should take real credit for this result against a decent side.

Aberdeen's game plan was clear, to frustrate Sporting, but the early goal really didn't help that. Tactically tonight Aberdeen were good but the quality just wasn't there going forward.

So, Celtic and Rangers progress and Aberdeen and Motherwell fall by the wayside.

    Not a huge surprise.

Now we can look forward to a couple of cracking play-off ties next week.

Rangers will be at home to Turkish giants Galatasaray, while Celtic will be away to Sarajevo in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Will both sides of the Old Firm make it to the group stage?

Rangers cruise into the play-off round in style.

It ended a rout and that's thanks to some superb saves from Allan McGregor and fine creativity from Ryan Kent at the other end.

It was a clinical and professional performance from Steven Gerrard's side and it ended comfortably despite some dangerous moments from Willem II.

  14. 'We matched them for long periods' - Robinsonpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    FT: Beer Sheva 3-0 Motherwell

Motherwell put in a valiant effort in Israel this evening, dominating at some stages but guilty of not taking their chances, and manager Stephen Robinson has been expressing his frustration post-match despite feeling a sense of pride.

"We had so much of the game, we were so disciplined and organised," says Robinson.

"We had chances. We done ever so well at times, but at that this level we concede from two set plays which is so disappointing.

"We certainly matched them for long periods. Unfortunately we were a little bit naive with things."

    Willem II 0-4 Rangers

Ryan Kent is now off for Rangers as Jordan Jones comes on. Kent has been involved in almost everything for Rangers going forward. Winning the penalty, scoring the second and crossing to Filip Helander for the third. A great performance from the winger.

    A third Rangers defender scores.

This time it's Connor Goldson, who heads home a corner delivered by James Tavernier.

Allan McGregor with another save, this time gathered more comfortably from a long-range effort.

  20. 'Hayes has to do better'published at 21:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

Hayes has got to do better there. He might have had too many options available to him. He ends up going for goal but far more accuracy is required from that angle.
