"Tonight we have hopefully quietened a few for a while anyway. We have tried to change and be more expansive. It goes up and down so quickly - that's Newcastle.

"If we can keep Allan Saint-Maximin fit he will get people off their seats, he can do things that other people can't. He is explosive. He is a goalscorer and a threat.

"I've known Phil Bardsley since he was 12 so I'm not surprised that he had a few kicks at him."

Kris Jefferson: If people start questioning why Newcastle fans still don’t want Bruce, this result actually shows it. We’ve proven we can play well, but Bruce constantly plays overly defensive systems which inevitably lead to awful performances (as seen earlier in the week).

Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche: "Allan Saint-Maximin? He was a handful, well done him. I'm really pleased for him.

"On a night like tonight Nick Pope should just put his foot through it, he knows that but he's a top keeper.

"We have still got four important players missing, we have a few days off now and then we will work very hard. When everyone is fit we have got a good group. It looks different when they are all back."

Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin speaking to Sky Sports: "I try to do my best for my team. It was really important to win this game against a really great Burnley team. I’m happy to win this game and give my team more confidence."

On his goal: "I saw a lot of players in front of me. I tried to dribble, because that’s the way I play. I’m really happy to score this goal for my team today."

On his assist: "For me it’s really good when I score or give assists and my team wins. I was really happy to give this assist for Callum. It’s the perfect night tonight."

On his injured ankle: "I feel pain but that’s the Premier League. You get some kicks but you have to keep going. I was injured against Brighton and when I started the game I got a kick, so I started feeling it again."

On his position: "I moved into the centre in the second half. I like to play number 10 because I’m close to the goal. It gives me more opportunities to score."

Burnley

Burnley have begun a league campaign with three straight defeats for the first time since 2003-04 in the second tier, while the last time they did so in the top-flight was in 1927-28.

No Premier League action for, ooooh, 14 hours now. Tomorrow's schedule is a cheese dream.

Sean Longstaff comes on for the last minute just to kill a bit of time and he goes very close to embroidering the scoreline, lovely left-footed curler from 25 yards which brushes the side netting.

Now they have - Dwight McNeil's clipped free kick pinballs around and Kevin Long ends up volleying it way over the bar.

Burnley haven't had a shot since they scored. A weird performance.

When do you start fearing for Burnley? I still think they'll be fine but they do look short.

Christian Evans: People saying Leeds have had a great start and Newcastle a terrible start. If the score stays like this they've got the same points so I can't work that one out! As a Sheff Wed fan, it pains me to say Bruce is doing a great job, but he is.

From the start of the second half to their equaliser Burnley were excellent. The minute they scored they just fell apart and now it looks like it's game over. Lovely effort from Ryan Fraser as he tries a lob from a good 40 yards out - Nick Pope gets back to make the save.
