In fact they clear it so well that Burnley can counter at pace. Dwight McNeil runs at the backpedalling defence and hits a cracking low drive that may have snuck into the corner but Karl Darlow gets a touch on it to push it out.

The home side are on top in the early knockings as they work a neat move down the right to win a corner. Newport slayer Jonjo Shelvey whips it in but Burnley will clear them all day long.

Nick Pope might be hoping that Gareth Southgate has had enough football today as he is closed down by Callum Wilson and nearly cannons the clearance off the striker and in. It pops wide in the end.

Newcastle have won just one of their last eight home league games (D4 L3), losing each of their last three in a row conceding three goals each time. Only Crystal Palace (April 1998) and Fulham (March 2014) have ever lost four consecutive Premier League home games while conceding 3+ goals each time.

Cavani is out of contract having left Paris St-Germain at the end of June.

He feels he has unfinished business in European football given he exited PSG under a cloud following a disagreement with Neymar.

United have been given a positive impression about the player’s desire to play for the club and providing face-to-face talks confirm that impression, a deal will be done.

It is understood the package on the table does not go beyond the current pay structure, so United feel any comparisons with Alexis Sanchez, who was given a £350,000-a-week contract which he failed to come close to justifying, would be wide of the mark.

They also feel Cavani’s age, 33, is not an issue and his experience will help develop the younger players within Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

It is understood talks around Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho have not progressed, although club sources refuse to say whether United’s attempt to sign the England man is over.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce makes four changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Tottenham.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles is nursing a hamstring injury, Matt Ritchie is out with a shoulder injury and Miguel Almiron and Javier Manquillo both drop to the bench.

That means winger Allan Saint-Maximin returns after a three-match absence with an ankle problem, while Emil Krafth, Fabian Schar and Jamal Lewis all start.

Edinson Cavani is due to fly into England tomorrow to seal a move to Manchester United.

The Uruguayan has been in talks with United and although there is no deal yet, it is growing increasingly likely Cavani will join the Old Trafford outfit in what could extend to a two-year contract.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa speaking to MOTD: "The start and the end were with City and the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half were a bit better for us

"For them to be superior to us is pretty easy for them, it doesn’t require much effort, whereas for us it requires us to go to the limit to be on their level.

"We couldn’t take the ball off them and they were taking the ball off us very easily. We did it with a lot of effort, a lot of aggression to win the ball back and the confidence in our game grew.

"It wouldn’t have been fair if we had won the match, it would’ve been possible, but not fair."

This is the happiest I've seen Pep Guardiola after a game for a while. He enjoyed that one.
