We've reached the midway point of the first half and the Bees have the lead through Ivan Toney's strike.

Said Benrahma is sitting among the multi-coloured seats at Brentford's new stadium, having been named as a substitute today.

The Algerian has been linked with a move away from the west London club, and could yet depart before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

The game has got a bit scrappier since that injury to Christian Norgaard disrupted the flow of the match.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

The return didn't last long as Norgaard can't continue following that knock.

He is replaced by compatriot Mathias Jensen, who comes on after 19 minutes of this first half.

Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard is down in the middle of the pitch and needs some treatment.

The Dane is clutching his right leg, with the problem seeming to be the bottom of his calf or his ankle.

It looks like he landed awkwardly after challenging for a header.

    Brentford 1-0 Preston

This game has suddenly become really open.

Brentford work two more sights at goal.

First Emilano Marcondes shoots straight at Declan Rudd from just outside the area, and then Josh Dasilva tests the Lilywhites keeper with a low effort.

That goal came with Brentford's first shot of the match.

And Preston have almost equalised with their first effort.

Scott Sinclair cut in from the left and found Sean Maguire inside the box, but the forward's low effort was straight at Bees keeper Luke Daniels.

Brentford take the lead with a slick team move.

The hosts spread the ball to the left and Josh Dasilva is unleashed down the flank.

The England Under-21 international slides the ball across and Ivan Toney is on hand to slot in from seven yards out.

The striker got in between the Preston centre-backs and has his second goal for the Bees.

Preston threaten properly for the first time after winning a corner.

Ryan Ledson's delivery is headed away at the near post and then Bees striker Ivan Toney, helping out at the back, nods away the second ball into the box.

    Brentford 0-0 Preston

Preston have a bit of defending to do in the opening couple of minutes as Sergi Canos and then Bryan Mbeumo probe at the away defence.

Canos almost drew a rash challenge in the North End box, but there wasn't enough contact to topple the Spanish winger.

The first Championship game of the day is under way at the Brentford Community Stadium as the hosts kick off.

Brentford have had success in the League Cup so far this season, but their start to the Championship campaign has been mixed.

The Bees lost their opener at Birmingham, but followed that up with a home win over Huddersfield and a point at Millwall.

Preston have fared worse in their opening three league games.

Alex Neil's side are yet to register a win, with narrow home defeats by Swansea and Stoke sandwiching a draw at Norwich.

The Lilywhites last failed to win any of their first four Championship matches in back in 2007-08.

Brentford were in action in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, and it was a very successful run-out for the Bees.

Thomas Frank's men beat west London rivals Fulham 3-0 to book a place in the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in the club's history.

The victory also saw the Bees exact some revenge for August's Championship play-off final defeat by the Whites at Wembley Stadium.

Algerian playmaker Said Benrahma netted twice against the Premier League side on his first start of the campaign, but he is back on the bench this afternoon.
