    Everton v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Those Klopp quotes were taken from an interview he has done with Football Focus in the week of his fifth anniversary as Liverpool boss. You can watch the full thing from 12:00 on BBC One.

Here is a small taster, in which he reveals he sent a "long, long text" to his players after that 7-2 loss at Villa.

Presumably: "Don't you ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever........

......ever, ever, ever, ever let that happen again,"

Reindeer hotdog: The last few Merseyside derbies have been quite low-scoring but was that because of the atmosphere created by a packed stadium or down to the intense rivalry felt between the clubs? You obviously favour Liverpool but if Everton can win it will be quite some statement.

Adam J: Gomez has honestly been pretty poor since Project Restart at the end of last season. It was only a matter of Matip getting fit for him to be dropped. Needs to get his standards back up. Some time on the bench will make him want to earn his place back.

Always wondered about the fans in the Merseyside Derby - Manchester and London derbies have fans hurling abuse and hatred at each other for two hours but the Merseyside affair doesn't seem to be like that...is that just a blinkered view from distance?

It's early days, but one man who is backing Everton to maintain a healthy Premier League challenge is Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who saw it coming from the moment the Blues opted for Carlo Ancelotti as boss.

"What I think about Carlo Ancelloti was never a secret. I couldn't respect him more. He's a wonderful human being," Klopp told BBC Football Focus.

"When I heard he was going to sign for Everton I thought 'Uhhh, the next proper challenger in line'.

"They did the perfect business in the summer. They found exactly the players that they needed to improve an already pretty good football team.

"Together, getting more used to what Carlo wants them to do makes them a pretty strong team."

So Everton, what was it that attracted you to three-time Champions League winner and multi-national league title manager Carlo Ancelotti?

Yeah, it's the Merseyside derby, and a pretty big one at that. So if you're either a blue or a red we'd like to see how you're sporting your colours today.

Are you going full kit, scarf and the lot? What about turning the living room into a makeshift Goodison in the absence of being able to go to the game?

Premier League leaders Everton make two changes to the side that beat Brighton 4-2 before the international break, with midfielders Allan and Andre Gomes returning in place of Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who both drop to the bench.

Liverpool have Sadio Mane and Thiago back after their spells in isolation, with the latter making his first start for the club following a summer move from Bayern Munich.

They are part of four changes for Jurgen Klopp's side, thrashed 7-2 at Aston Villa last time out, with Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip also coming into the side.

Diogo Jota, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum and Joe Gomez are the ones replaced.

Ham: Think this is the most nervous I’ve been for a Merseyside derby in a long time. Big result needed today, to show not just the rest of the league that we’re still at our best but also to quieten down all those Blues fans...

Looks like that 7-2 was all Joe Gomez's fault!

He drops out of the Liverpool side, with Joel Matip starting. Thiago and Sadio Mane are both in the XI.

Everton are pretty much full strength, with Lucas Digne and Allan both fit.

    Full team news coming shortly.

    Everton v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Liverpool lost the plot against Villa - Klopp

To be fair, Liverpool have made a pretty good start themselves, but we judge the Reds by a high standard these days and their own 100% winning start was, shall we say, somewhat tarnished by their previous game. And by tarnished, I mean dragged a key right down the driver's side.

Aston Villa 7-2 Liverpool is a very tough game to pick the bones out of. Everything that could have gone right for Villa and wrong for Liverpool did. Jurgen Klopp described his side as "losing the plot" and I don't think anyone would disagree.

It was the first time Liverpool have conceded seven goals in a match in all competitions since April 1963 in a 7-2 league defeat at Tottenham, and they became the first reigning English top-flight champions to ship seven goals in a league match since Arsenal against Sunderland in September 1953.

It would be fair to say that Everton have got off to an absolute flier...

The Toffees have won their opening seven games in all competitions for the first time since 1894-95.

They could win five league matches in a row for the first time since a run of seven from March to April 2014.

And they are also looking to win their opening five league games for the first time since 1938-39.

They beat reigning top-flight champions Arsenal in their fifth match that season. Woooo, spooky.

  13. Early team newspublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Everton v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Let's get the early team news out of the way (with 15 minutes until it's confirmed), for all you fantasy football players...

Everton are monitoring the fitness of Lucas Digne, who suffered a minor knee injury on international duty.

Seamus Coleman, Allan and Andre Gomes all returned to training this week and are under consideration but Mason Holgate continues to be absent.

Liverpool remain without goalkeeper Alisson so Adrian will again deputise.

Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara are set to return after self-isolating because of positive coronavirus tests, while Joel Matip is back in training.

It's is a long time since we were heading into a Merseyside derby with Everton leading the top-flight table. Thirty-one years in fact. September 1989. They had Mike Newell up front and Kevin Sheedy in midfield (Google them, kids).

And now here we are again, with the Blue half sitting pretty after a superb start to the season under Carlo Ancelotti.

Liverpool, the reigning champions lest we forget, had a bit of a humbling reality check at Villa Park before the break and will be very keen to bounce back (cue picture of Klopp holding a tennis ball to his temple and pointing to camera).

You might almost say it set this game up perfectly.

  15. It's good to be backpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

It's OK, you can start paying attention to football again now.

With all all that international nonsense out of the way (seriously, how long was that break?!), we can get back to the proper football.

You know, the one with all the goals and the madness.

And we're not going for some sort of 'dip your toe in the shallow part and ease yourself in' either. Oh no, we're diving straight in at the deep end...

  16. You can't leave it like that?!published at 11:02 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

It was a hell of a cliffhanger that they left us with before the international break. Man Utd and Liverpool hit for sixes and sevens, Everton flying...

Will the Toffees keep it up? How will the Project Big Picture pair respond to their humiliation (on the pitch, that is)?

It's the Premier League's equivalent of when Ross said Rachel's name in the first of those two Friends wedding episodes in London.

Someone keep an eye on Ole or he might escape out the bathroom window.
