Marcus Rashford's campaign to provide free meals for children over half term is "absolutely incredible", says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The England and Manchester United striker, 22, is sharing messages on Twitter from local businesses that have pledged to support his campaign.

A motion to extend free school meals over holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs.

"He plays for United, which makes it really tricky," said Klopp. "But in these moments we are as footballers and as human beings always united.

"What Marcus has started is absolutely incredible. It is so nice. I hope his mother is really proud of him. I don't know him but even I am proud of him.

"Football can be really wondrous in moments and it shows that the subject is really, really serious and that is why everybody puts the rivalry aside and thinks about the more important things in life."

Arsenal man: Liverpool won't win it without VVD. City will come back with a late win if Everton don't take it.

Peter Johnson: Neither looks as good this season. If one of the smaller teams is going to do a Leicester 2016 it could be Everton now.

Solomon: Nope. Those 2 will be the top two, but in what order? I think Liverpool to win it but it'll be close.

Gerald Psalms: I see Man City finishing 5th.

Definitely not the duoopoly of last two seasons, but it will still be either of Liverpool/Man City that will stay the course by less than 5 points.

    Duncan in New Hartley

It's Liverpool's season again. The start to the season has been crazy but Liverpool will win cos they have that winning mentality going forward and the ability to come back from defeat. Speaking as a Man City fan we should come close but injuries will push us back.

    Aston Villa 0-3 Leeds

Leeds United and their striker Patrick Bamford both know a thing or two about being written off.

Bamford was once a teenage wonderkid on the books of Chelsea, but he had not kicked a ball in anger in the Premier League for three years before this season.

Leeds had to endure slightly longer away from the top flight - 16 years in fact - during which they lurched from one crisis and false dawn to the next until Marcelo Bielsa came along and marched them back into the big time.

But the doubters remain. Just this week, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor described Bielsa's side as a "myth" on Talksport , externaland said teams would "find them out".

On Friday, though, both Leeds and Bamford demonstrated that there is far more substance to them, with the striker netting a hat-trick as his side put Villa, the division's in-form side, to the sword.

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

Defeat for West Ham would equal their club record of 10 successive losses against one opponent, set against Arsenal between 2010 to 2015.

The last time West Ham played Manchester City when they sat above them in the table was in March 2009. The Hammers won that match 1-0.

West Ham boss David Moyes has only won more Premier League fixtures as a manager vs Fulham than the 12 he has against Manchester City.

Manchester City can lose more than one of their opening five league matches of a season for the first time since 2008-09.

Manager Pep Guardiola has won all nine of his matches against West Ham by an aggregate score of 30-3. It is the joint-best 100% win ratio of his career along with fixtures against Watford and Bournemouth.

  10. Rashford 'overwhelmed' by supportpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

Man Utd v Chelsea (17:30 BST)

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford said he "couldn't be more proud to call myself British" after the community response to his campaign to get free meals for children during the half-term holiday.

Councils and businesses have offered to provide food during the break for those who are entitled to free school meals.

The England striker told BBC Newsnight he was "overwhelmed" by the support.

It comes after a Labour bid to extend free school meals during the Covid-19 pandemic was rejected by MPs.

After a campaign led by Rashford earlier this year, the government changed its policy to allow 1.3 million children in England claim free school meal vouchers during the summer holidays.

But the government has ruled out extending free meals nationwide beyond term time, saying it has given councils £63m for families facing financial difficulties due to pandemic restrictions, as well as increasing welfare support by £9.3bn.

The games are coming thick and fast for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, who is without several key players because of injury, names the same 11 that started against Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday.

There is one notable addition to the substitutes bench - Kevin de Bruyne is back after missing his club's last two games.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Garcia, Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Gundogan, Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling.

Substitutes: Stones, Zinchenko, Steffen, De Bruyne, Torres, Foden, Palmer.

  19. Guardiola expects 'normality' to returnpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 24 October 2020

West Ham v Man City (12:30 BST)

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expects "normality" to return to the Premier League this season after his side's recent record-breaking battles with Liverpool.

Last term, Liverpool, who won the title by 18 points, finished 33 in front of the third-placed team. Twelve months previously, City, who edged out Jurgen Klopp's men on the final day, were 26 in front of third-placed Chelsea.

When Guardiola won the Premier League for the first time in 2017-18, City were 23 points ahead of third-placed Tottenham.

"The history speaks for itself. This is the most open league in the world and many teams can win it," said Guardiola.

"What has happened in the last three seasons, with teams dominating and reaching almost 100 points, is an exceptional situation. Maybe normality will be back for this season.

"The teams who have seven or eight days to prepare for games have a huge advantage. That is why everyone can lose anywhere."
