  3. 'Release of pressure' pays off for Scotlandpublished at 22:24 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

"We controlled the game pretty much start to finish, I always felt comfortable," Scotland manager Steve Clarke tells Sky Sports.

"It's good for Lyndon, a good move for the goal. We also get the success on the back of a terrific defensive performance, two clean sheets, it's something we've been working hard on.

"You get criticised for a lack of shots of targets. But it's not so much about the statistics, it's what you do. It wasn't that we weren't creating tonight.

"You have to understand the enormity of the game on Thursday and the pressure the players were under. I think tonight you saw the release of that pressure.

"I thought Andrew Considine was terrific. He just joined us the other day. He's experienced, he's played close to 600 games for Aberdeen, he's here on merit and he showed that tonight.

"It sets us up nicely for a good game on Wednesday. We're top of the group, come Wednesday evening I hope we're still top of the group."

  4. Considine 'emotional' after Scotland debutpublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine admits it was "emotional" making his Scotland debut at the age of 33.

He tells Sky Sports: "I was always believing that one day I would get the call. Getting the call the other day was out of blue, but I was over the moon and delighted to be part of it.

"It was very nerve wracking, I'm not going to lie. But to have the quality around me to get you through the game. I've got enough experience playing European football with Aberdeen that helps, but to play alongside some top class footballers really helps."

On the prospect of adding to his one cap:

"I hope so. That's the main thing for me - produce performances that make the manager think I'm worthy of staying in the squad.

"It was a big step up. Marek Hamsik, you sit and watch him at home, he's a top class player.

"I thought the boys were brilliant, we could have had a couple more. But overall we were solid."

It's looking like a two-horse race in the group now.

Following Wednesday's meeting with the Czechs at Hampden, Scotland are away to Israel and Slovakia in November.

Those games come after the Euro 2020 play-off final in Serbia.

Remember, the Nations League offers a safety net route to the play-offs for the World Cup, although it's nowhere near as generous as the path we are on for a possible place at the delayed Euros.

  7. Dykes makes his mark againpublished at 22:07 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

Lyndon Dykes now has two goals in four outings for Scotland, which is a decent return.

The Australia-born striker tells BBC Scotland: "It was another good performance and another clean sheet.

"I love coming away with the boys. I feel really happy and enjoying every minute of it.

"International football demands a lot of you, the standard is very high. For myself, I think it will help me develop as a player.

"We've all been positive this whole camp and that's seven games in a row without a loss."

  8. Fraser enjoys 'different' rolepublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

After a very impressive second-half showing, Scotland forward Ryan Fraser tells Sky Sports: "On another day we could have scored two or three, so it was quite positive.

"I've never really played as a striker so it was different for me, I just tried to play my best. If we can get a win over the Czech Republic it gives us momentum going into next month which is needed.

"Everyone is thinking about next month but we've got to be professional. We need to go on and win this group. Every game you play for Scotland you've got to give your all."

  9. Can Scots keep momentum going for final?published at 21:58 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

The Czech Republic should offer a sterner test on Wednesday and they may have revenge on their minds after Scotland beat a makeshift side in Olomouc last month.

Scotland will be without suspended captain Andy Robertson but their tails will be up after two positive results at Hampden in the past few days.

Can Steve Clarke's side make it to eight games unbeaten? That hasn't happened since Andy Roxburgh was in charge with a run from September 1987 to October 1988.

That would really lift spirits for the Euro 2020 play-off final with Serbia in November.

There's some really encouraging signs. The players were more relaxed in the second half, their decision-making was better. The second half performance was more akin to the way everyone wants to see us performing at Hampden.

  11. 'Another step in the right direction'published at 21:48 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Scotland 1-0 Slovakia

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer at Hampden

Yeah, fine, it was a weakened Slovakia team that Scotland played, but, frankly, we shouldn’t give a damn. That’s seven unbeaten. They’re becoming organised where before they were a soft touch. That was a huge job that needed to be done and Clarke is making steady progress on that front by the looks of it.

More creativity will come as confidence grows, I reckon. The players are there to do it. This was another step in the right direction. Defensively very sound. Ryan Fraser’s flourishes augur well. A really encouraging night

  12. Czechs next up...published at 21:41 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    FT: Israel 1-2 Czech Republic

The Czechs are just one point behind Scotland after their win in Haifa.

They are at Hampden on Wednesday in what should be a tasty game.

Win that one and Steve Clarke's side are in a very healthy position.
