The national anthems are done and we're nearly there. The lack of atmosphere does the home players no favours as they mumble along awkwardly to Flower of Scotland.

  5. Clarke 'surprised' at Slovakia changespublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Scotland manager Steve Clarke reveals that Liam Cooper is out of tonight's game and Wednesday's clash with Czech Republic due to injury.

He tells Sky Sports: "It's a debut for Andrew Considine, which is fantastic for him.

"I'm a bit surprised at the number of changes Slovakia have made. But they've kept the key man (Hamsik) in the team.

"Hopefully we can build on what we did on Thursday and get the three points."

John McGinn is becoming a crucial player for Scotland now that Scott Brown has retired. He has that drive and aggression and he can get forward well too

  7. Hamsik still makes Slovenia tickpublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Marek Hamsik has been rocking the distinctive mohawk hairstyle for quite a while now.

At 33, his best days are maybe behind him, but the Slovakia captain remains a class act and will need to be watched closely.

The former Napoli midfielder, who has amassed more than 120 caps, plays in China now.

  8. 'Every industry is affected'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Despite the coronavirus chaos, Scotland boss Steve Clarke insists it is "unfair" to "question the credibility" of international football.

"You either go with the games or you don't," he said at yesterday's media conference. "And if you go with the games you can't start to question credibility.

"It would be very unfair to say the problem with Covid is international football. It's not. Every industry is affected by it. It's a global pandemic."

  9. Covid withdrawals mount up for group rivalspublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Is it really wise to have players crisscrossing the continents at this time? That debate could run all night...

Scotland have lost key men Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie and Kieran Tierney after a positive test for the Southampton midfielder.

But almost every nation has suffered some kind of coronavirus setback during this round of fixtures.

Slovakia are without Serie A stars Milan Skriniar and Stanislav Lobotka and then lost winger Jaroslav Mihalík, who started Thursday's play-off semi-final.

Then we have the Czech Republic, forced to find a whole new team the last time we played them, who are down to 18 players for this evening's game in Israel. They have taken the precaution of naming a "reserve" squad for Wednesday's trip to Hampden in case lightning strikes twice.

  10. Considine's journey to full honourspublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Andrew Considine becomes the 61st Aberdeen player to be capped for Scotland.

He has watched team-mate after team-mate get the call ahead of him. His defensive partners at Pittodrie, Scott McKenna and Michael Devlin, have won 19 caps between them, at a time when Considine was named the Dons' player of the year by both the fans and players, accolades he has won twice.

He last represented Scotland back in September 2008, when he played in an under-21s 3-1 win over Slovenia.

There will be a few Aberdonians shedding a wee tear when he walks out in dark blue.

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Andrew Considine must have thought at 33 the opportunity of playing for Scotland had passed him by. At Aberdeen over the years he has been very consistent. He's there on merit in my book.

  12. Same again will do nicely for Scotlandpublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Scotland may have needed a late own goal to down Slovakia in October 2017 but it was pretty much one-way traffic all night once the visitors went down to 10 men.

Leigh Griffiths and Chris Martin both hit the crossbar, and an inspired Martin Dubravka kept out efforts from Christophe Berra, Griffiths and James Morrison before Martin Skrtel turned in a cross from Ikechi Anya.

Newcastle keeper Dubravka is currently sidelined with an injury, so we don't need to worry about him. His replacement tonight, Dusan Kuciak, is making just his 11th international appearance at the age of 35.

  13. Return of the Mak?published at 19:14 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

This is the third meeting of the nations after they were grouped together in qualifying for the last World Cup.

Robert Mak was a significant player in both games, scoring twice as Scotland fell to a 3-0 loss in Trnava and getting himself sent off in the first half at Hampden as Gordon Strachan's side squeaked a 1-0 courtesy of a late own goal.

The winger was a late sub in Thursday's play-off semi-final against Republic of Ireland and he's on the bench again this evening having only recently secured a move to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

  15. More emphasis on attack?published at 19:07 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

On Thursday, Steve Clarke surprised us all by selecting two strikers but then forgot all about Lyndon Dykes and Oli McBurnie, packing everyone else behind the ball.

Scotland didn't have a single shot on target over 120 minutes against Israel, although Liam Cooper grazed the post with a header right at the death and Scott McTominay really ought to have scored with a free nod at goal late in the first half.

Will we see a slightly more adventurous approach this evening? Is Ryan Fraser playing out wide or will he be asked to support Dykes?

  17. Just the nine changes for Slovakia...published at 18:56 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

  18. Slovakia enjoy similar semi-final successpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Slovakia prop up the table after opening with a 3-1 defeat at home to neighbours Czech Republic. That one must have stung.

And then there was further agony when Israel found an equaliser in stoppage time, during a 1-1 draw in Netanya.

On Thursday, they rather rode their luck against Republic of Ireland to mirror Scotland, securing a Euro 2020 play-off final with Northern Ireland after a penalty shootout.

  19. Scotland out in frontpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 11 October 2020

    Scotland v Slovakia (19:45)

Scotland lead the way in Nations League Group B2 after a 1-1 draw in Glasgow with Israel last month and 2-1 win away to a hastily-assembled Czech side.

Neither performance was particularly convincing and Thursday's semi-final was a hard watch but Steve Clarke's side are unbeaten is six games now and that's not to be sniffed at.
