That wasn't great from the Czechs but brilliant from Scotland. The awareness of Dykes to play in Fraser was fantastic and from ten yards out he's shown great composure.

  10. goal

GOAL Scotland 1-0 Czech Republicpublished at 6 mins

    Ryan Fraser

    Scotland goal

That's much better from Stephen O'Donnell, who steps in to steal the ball deep in the opposition half. He moves it on to Lyndon Dykes near the edge of the box and the striker steps away from his man and pokes a pass through for Ryan Fraser, who slips a shot under the goalkeeper.

    What a start!

  14. Why does the Nations League matter?published at 19:43 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

The Nations League is responsible for Scotland's second chance at qualification for Euro 2020.

So, what's at stake this time around? The safety net for the 2022 World Cup is not nearly so generous.

There will be two places up for grabs to join the 10 runners-up from European qualification groups in a play-off, with only three progressing to Qatar.

Steve Clarke will just need to make sure Scotland top their qualifying group next time.

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

    Craig Levein
Former Scotland manager on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

The Czech Republic are a good side. This is a different test tonight. Scotland will have to defend more than they have recently. Our front three will need to make things happen on their own.

  17. Here's hoping Scotland face Czechs again in the summerpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

This is a big match in the context of the Nations League campaign, but the next one is what it's all about really.

On 12 November, Scotland will be in Serbia for a one-off tie to decide which team progresses to Group D in next summer's rescheduled European Championship.

The Czech Republic have already secured their place in that group, along with England and Croatia, with all of the matches played at Hampden and Wembley.

Since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, tonight's opponents have been at every single Euros, finishing runners-up in 1996.

Scotland will be battling in Belgrade for a first appearance since 96!

  18. McTominay settling into back three rolepublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

There were a few raised eyebrows when Steve Clarke selected Scott McTominay in defence for last month's 1-1 draw with Israel.

The Manchester United midfielder looked a bit wobbly that evening and again in the win away to the Czech Republic, but Clarke stuck to his guns and the 23-year-old has been solid in the last two games, helping the side keep back-to-back clean sheets.

He is getting more game time for Scotland than he is at club level and United have not been looking to clever at the back, so maybe he could make the transition full-time? He's big and strong and it's certainly an asset to have someone who can bring the ball out with confidence and pick a pass.

  19. Clarke content with settled defencepublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

More from Scotland manager Steve Clarke's quick pre-match interview with Sky...

Is it key to keep consistency?

"I think you can see that from the selection, certainly four out of the back five, Andy Robertson is missing with suspension, so Greg Taylor comes in. He's been with us the whole time and understands the message that we're trying to put across. So yeah, a bit of consistency, certainly at the back."

How important is this game to take control of the group?

"It's a big one. Obviously a win for us would put us in a really good position. Even a draw tonight would keep us top going into November. That's what we're aiming for, we want to be top of the section going into November. We want to have a chance to win the play-off final and a chance to win this group."

  20. Clarke asks for 'more of the same'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has been talking to Sky Sports.

How do you keep building on this unbeaten run?

"We're trying to build something here and I think the best way to build it is not to get beat. Obviously if you can make that wins it's even better. That's what we're trying to do, just more of the same and just keep pushing forward."

How will Scotland cope with busy week?

"I mentioned it on Sunday. I freshened the midfield then and I've freshened it again tonight, certain positions maybe do a little bit less running but in the engine room there are one or two players that if they're being asked to go again might find it a tough ask but I can use five subs so there may be a few changes later in the game."
