  1. Scotland unbeaten in three against Czechspublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Scotland have won their last two matches against the Czechs, both away from home, while the most recent meeting at Hampden was a 2-2 draw back in 2011.

The overall tally is fours wins to the Czechs, with Scotland on three and that one draw.

One of those defeats for Scotland involved Craig Levein's infamous 4-6-0 formation, but let's not dwell on that.

  2. Considine keeps his placepublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

The Andrew Considine story is a great one, isn't it?

The Aberdeen defender was a late call up to the squad and made his debut against Slovakia on Sunday at the age of 33.

He didn't put a foot wrong and he's back for cap number two tonight.

  4. Can Scotland make it eight unbeaten?published at 19:08 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

    San Marino (H), Cyprus (A), Kazakhstan (H), Israel (H), Czech Republic (A), Israel (H), Slovakia (H).

That's been the run of seven unbeaten for Scotland.

Not exactly stellar opposition and we've already been over the special circumstances for that win in Olomouc.

But getting the job done when it's expected is something Scotland have not always been particularly good at and not losing is a very decent habit to develop.

Tonight looks like a sterner test.

Scotland haven't gone eight unbeaten since Andy Roxburgh was in charge in 1987-88.

  5. No stars, but Czechs are balancedpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Talking of West Ham, there are couple of Irons in the visitors' line-up; full-back Vladimir Coufal and powerful midfielder Tomas Soucek, who is a real menace in the air and loves a late run into the penalty area.

Matej Vydra is something of a bit-part player with Burnley but has three goals in eight outings for club and country this season, including one in Sunday's 2-1 win over Israel.

Vladimir Darida captains the side and the midfielder has seven seasons in the Bundesliga under his belt.

There are no star names to rival former heroes Pavel Nedved, Tomas Rosicky, Vladimir Smicer, Karel Poborsky and Petr Cech, but the team has plenty of experience.

  6. Absent boss will have his saypublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Czech Republic assistant Jiri Chytry takes charge this evening but head coach Jaroslav Silhavy aims to make his presence felt from afar.

"We will be in touch with the manager but we haven't decided whether he will be online or giving us instructions as the game goes on," said Chytry yesterday.

"We might have a member of the team allocated to speak to him and if a strong message is needed to be passed along to me, they will do that.

"Jaroslav and I had a plan and we prepared the team before this happened. Now it is about making small tweaks."

I'm not sure where Silhavy is exactly but managing from the living room has worked a treat for Scottish boss David Moyes, with West Ham going great guns without him on the touchline.

  7. Coronavirus hits Czechs hardpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Scotland lost three key men to coronavirus protocols, with Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie instructed to isolate following a positive test for Stuart Armstrong.

However, that's nothing compared to the woes Czech Republic have been dealing with.

On top of having to scramble together a whole new squad and coaching staff for the last meeting with Scotland, five players had to withdraw before Sunday's win in Israel, including regular captain Borek Dockal.

One more player has tested positive since then, along with head coach Jaroslav Silhavy.

There's no doubt that there were signs of improvement the other night. It seems like the players are buying into this system the more they get used to it.

  9. Scotland out in front...published at 18:44 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

At the halfway stage of this campaign, Scotland lead tonight's visitors by one point.

A win for Steve Clarke's side would be very handy indeed since it is the last of our home games, although is it much of an advantage these days?

The Czechs will be at home to Israel and Slovakia after this one, having beaten both nations on their travels.

International football is a gradual process. The defence has been good recently but being more creative can be hard. So it was nice to see that Fraser and McGinn offered more the other night. Scotland should build on that.

  11. Same again for Czech Republicpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

The visitors stick with the same starting XI from Sunday's 2-1 win in Israel.

  12. Three changes for Scotland as Taylor startspublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

With captain Andy Robertson suspended, Celtic's Greg Taylor steps in.

Callum McGregor and Ryan Jack return to the midfield, with Kenny McLean and John Fleck, who has a back injury, dropping out.

Lyndon Dykes starts up top for the third game running.

David Marshall, Scott McTominay and Declan Gallagher have played every minute so far this week, with John McGinn and Stephen O'Donnell given only the briefest of breathers.

McGinn skippers the national side for the first time.

  13. Clarke making his mark with Scotlandpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Scotland started this rare triple-header with goalless draw against Israel. It was a drab, cagey affair settled on penalties as David Marshall made one crucial stop.

Slovakia were in town on Sunday and, while the first-half was pretty forgettable, Scotland were assured once Lyndon Dykes broke the deadlock and never looked like relinquishing the lead.

There may be a few tired legs out there, but confidence should be up and the players are getting used to Steve Clarke's methods, so will we see an improvement again?

  14. Czechs better prepared this time...published at 18:23 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Scotland already have a win over the Czechs in this campaign.

However, it was an ill-prepared third choice XI that lost out 2-1 in Olomouc.

The hosts tried to call the game off after a Covid-19 outbreak forced the entire Czech squad into quarantine but were ordered to scramble together an entire new squad at just 48 hours' notice.

Jakub Pesek shot the hastily-assembled side in front but Scotland hit back with goals from Ryan Christie and Lyndon Dykes.

There are only two players from that Czech squad in Glasgow this evening but both sides are far from full strength.

  15. Triple-header comes to a close with Czechs at Hampdenpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 14 October 2020

    Scotland v Czech Republic (19:45)

Here we go again with Scotland's third home game in a week.

The mood is upbeat, with Steve Clarke's side into a Euro 2020 play-off final, top of the Nations League group and unbeaten in a year.

Czech Republic are tonight's opposition and they are looking for revenge after a defeat in highly unusual circumstances last month.
