  2. Welsh & Laxalt start for depleted Celticpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

Centre-back Stephen Welsh is thrown in for only his second appearance for a Celtic side depleted by Covid-19 and injury.

Welsh comes in for the self-isolating Hatem Elhamed in the back three, with Christopher Jullien still out injured.

AC Milan loanee Diego Laxalt makes his debut at left-back, having been preferred to Greg Taylor, who is among the substitutes.

Striker Patryk Klimala is handed just a second start of the season - partnering Mohamed Elyounoussi in a front two - as Odsonne Edouard fails to make the squad, having only returned from France on Friday following his positive test and quarantine.

Skipper Scott Brown is restored to midfield, with David Turnbull dropping to the bench as Celtic make four changes from their 2-0 win at St Johnstone a fortnight ago.

  5. McGregor back in goal for Rangerspublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

There are not too many surprises in the Rangers line-up, although the experience of veteran Allan McGregor is preferred between the sticks as Jon McLaughlin drops to the bench.

Ryan Jack will be a miss as the Scotland midfielder is also among the substitutes, but he did play twice in a week for his country having just returned from a calf injury.

Northern Ireland's Steven Davis slots into his place in midfield from the win over Ross County, with Filip Helander returning at centre-back in place of Leon Balogun and Brandon Barker playing as one of the inside forwards, rather than Jordan Jones.

A big boost for Rangers is the return of midfielder Joe Aribo, who is also among the substitutes.

  13. Historic meetingpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Celtic v Rangers (12:30)

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

    Quote Message

It is a game without fans and maybe without soul, but it will be remembered far longer than many other Old Firm contests, regardless of the hush or the outcome

Tom English argues that, whether it's "a barn-busting classic or a dreary stalemate", it will go down in history as the first, and hopefully last coronavirus derby between the two Glasgow behemoths.

  14. Will they, won't they?published at 11:08 British Summer Time 17 October 2020

    Celtic v Rangers (Sat 12:30)

While Rangers' selection headache revolved around who came back from playing for their countries without an injury, the big question mark for Celtic was how many of their four players forced to self-isolate while on international duty will be cleared to play.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon had claimed that Arsenal had been given permission to play Kieran Tierney against Manchester City today and therefore Scotland team-mate Ryan Christie ought to be able to face Rangers.

However, the Scottish government last night reaffirmed its position that anyone coming into close contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus, will be asked to self-isolate immediately for 14 days. Therefore, you imagine both should not be able to play today as Tierney should not have travelled out of Scotland.

France Under-21 striker Odsonne Edouard's self-isolation ended yesterday, so his participation depends on fitness, but Israel defenders Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed definitely miss out.
