What an unfortunate mistake, more of a deflection really. It is a wicked deflection but i think Illan Meslier's position is too central of the goal he's not close enough to the near post. How that squirms over the line I have no idea but he is so late in reacting he almost doesn't anticipate or see the reaction. Helder Costa is the unfortunate one that it deflects off but lucky stuff for Palace.
Helder Costa (own goal)
How has that even gone in???
Right, let's have a look it again.
So Patrick van Aanholt goes steaming down the left and looks to put in a cross which Helder Costa slides in to try and intercept.
The Portuguese winger is almost near the byeline, the ball comes off his foot and flashes in at the near post and into the net.
Real question marks about Illan Meslier though, the Leeds goalkeeper was caught out and couldn't react quickly enough.
Had his feet stuck in treacle.

Andros Townsend's cross, hits Luke Ayling's arm in the box.
No penalty.
VAR says no as well.
Don't ask me, I don't know OK.

Brilliant game I have to say I'm really enjoying it. Super tempo, real tackles and scrapping for the ball. And some real quality mixed in as well - at the moment it's got a bit of everything.
Crystal Palace 2-1 Leeds
Both teams look good in the middle third of the pitch, but then lack a little in that final third.
Just need that little bit more craft and care when they have the possession.

JT: It's a fine sunny afternoon for controversial VAR calls and defensive errors innit?
Albemarle: When a Bamford points to where he wants the ball played, he's not asking for it to be pinged skilfully off his forefinger. This current offside nonsense is now entrenched as a total embarrassment to the game.
Michael: Football was better with human error. VAR, armpit offsides, millimetres in decisions robbing us of delightful goals. Benefit of the doubt has disappeared. Football is truly dead.

Thought this one would be a slow burner but it has been excellent.
Wilfried Zaha weaving his magic again but a shot from the angle deflects wide.

Have we got a game on our hands here - super start to a game really enjoying this. Not just the goals but the movement and the quality as well - that's an excellent goal from Patrick Bamford. The anticipation he has, he has to have real composure, he chests it down, Nathaniel Clyne tries to get in his way but he just smashes it - such is the confidence of Bamford at the moment.
Patrick Bamford
This one WILL stand!
It is the Mateusz Klich-Patrick Bamford combination again, Polish midfielder nodding the ball into the path of his team-mate inside the box and Bamford finishes confidently with a sweetly-struck effort into the bottom corner.
His seventh goal of the season, should be eight really.
Crystal Palace 2-0 Leeds
No side has scored more direct free kicks in the Premier League in 2020 than Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Premier League leaders Southampton, all with three.

Postage stamp would be the word - that is definitely right on the postage stamp for Eberechi Eze. Super free-kick. It's a bit close, it's a difficult one to get up and down but he's hit it beautifully. It's just off the crossbar next to the post and that is a super free-kick.

Ah damn, missed the Eze peasy line.

Leeds haven't won an away PL game after conceding the first goal since December 2002 against Sunderland, losing 16 of their 17 matches since then.

It was a perfectly timed run, Patrick Bamford does everything right, he's got the lean so his feet are far back so his upper body is leaning and he's got the momentum to get in behind and hes got his hand out to signal 'put the ball there and I'll score' and he's done everything right. Is it his hand that's offside? I don't understand that because you can't score with your hand.
To have that ruled out, well, that's another one to debate.

JC: Looks like another horrific VAR decision ruling out a Patrick Bamford goal for offside
Serge: Do these people actually realize that they're driving people away from the game with these ridiculous VAR decisions?
Eberechi Eze
Step aside James Ward-Prowse, we have a new free-kick king.
That foul proves extremely costly as Eberechi Eze steps up and curls a sumptuous 25 yard free-kick over the wall and into the top corner.
Absolutely magnificent effort.
OK 'king' might be a tad OTT but it was a peach for his first Palace goal.

Now Palace have a free-kick 25 yards out as Eberechi Eze is felled by Robin Koch.

"We've been robbed of a lovely goal," says Steve Wilson on MOTD comms.
He is quite right too.
Patrick Bamford's goal is ruled out for one of those armpit offsides.
You know how I mentioned he pointed to where he wanted the ball, well it's done him because if he kept his arm down, he would be on.
