A well-taken goal by Bernard but questions will be asked again of the Manchester United defence given it was pretty-much route one.

People might sniff, but that route is often effective, especially when you're aiming for one of the best headers of the ball in the Premier League.

    Bernard

Route one, United just have not learnt.

Jordan Pickford smashes a kick up field, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is too strong for Victor Lindelof and flicks a header into the path of Bernard.

The visiting defenders needed to watch him, but don't, as the Brazilian squeezes a precise shot though the legs of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and into the bottom corner.

Big trouble for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now.

Been waiting a long time for a Bernard's Watch reference in BBC live text - well played.

    Paul in Glasgow

    Yes Paul!

Everyone under the age of 25 is now googling Bernard's Watch.

  5. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

    Everton 0-0 Man Utd

    United should lead!

Everton fail to clear a corner and it is recycled back into the box for Anthony Martial, who takes a touch and poked a left-footed shot from inside the area wide of goal.

In the next move, Marcus Rashford almost flukes one in to the top corner but thankfully for the retreating Jordan Pickford, the ball lands on top of the net.

Long punt up field by Everton but Victor Lindelof trots back to head the ball away.

At least they've worked on that in training on Thursday and Friday.

ManUtdUpdates: At the moment Bruno Fernandes is the only leader at Manchester United willing to talk and fight for the team. For me, this team can beat any team but the fighting spirit is lacking.

Michael: Crazy to think every signing united made during the summer doesn't get into the starting XI in a struggling team. Who chose these signings - manager or the club?

Everton growing into the game and are popping off some beautiful, one-touch passes.

They threaten to break into the United penalty area but work the ball back patiently.

Little Bernard having plenty of possession, almost as though time has stopped for him...

All Manchester United so far, in possession at least. Everton are being made to work hard defensively and you can hear how important Mason Holgate is in Everton's back-line after returning from injury.

He's constantly shouting "Allan, left" or "Allan, right" to his team-mate in front of him.

Thought it had initially come off the crossbar but the ball struck the stanchion behind the goal.

    Stanchion. Great word.

  12. CLOSE!published at 7 mins

    Everton 0-0 Man Utd

Ooooh, but the first real chance of the game comes for Everton.

Bernard finds space and clips a nice cross into the box, Dominic Calvert-Lewin gets the better of Harry Maguire in the air but flicks his header narrowly over the far post.

Had David de Gea worried, the United goalkeeper was scrambling.

  13. 'Ole is out of his depth'published at 12:34 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2020

    Everton 0-0 Man Utd

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Arsenal forward Lianne Sanderson speaking on BBC Radio 5 live:

"I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is out of his depth, he's only ever really managed Molde. There's not enough managers around these days, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Alex Ferguson who actually mange the team. They went on a long unbeaten streak under Ole not that long ago so there's some crazy thing happening - something deeper lies beneath.

"When a manager is not getting results the fans will always call for his head. Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield and Donny van de Beek is on the bench, why did they buy him? They just need to take responsibility but getting rid of a manager like Ole is difficult because he is a club legend and people love him."

  16. Can Carlo keep his cool?published at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2020

    Everton 0-0 Man Utd

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport at Goodison Park

Last time these two teams played back in March, they shared a thrilling 1-1 draw in front of a raucous Goodison Park.

After a late winner was ruled out for the hosts, Carlo Ancelotti endeared himself to the Everton fans by running onto the pitch to complain and got himself a red card.

Without such an electric atmosphere, you'd expect him to keep his cool, this time wouldn't you? Just one of the potential dramas missing from football at the minute, although I like how the stadium announcers read out the teams as if it's a full house.

Mark: Pogba is where he should be - on the bench. No more excuses OGS. Let’s get this season started!

Peter: Only Ole would buy a talent like Van De beek and keeps him on the bench and starts Mata regularly. No wonder your job is on the line

Dustin: I love this starting XI for Everton. Very nice to have Holgate back. 2-1 win coming with goals from Bernard and DCL.

  19. 'The physical aspect will not be decisive'published at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2020

Everton v Man Utd (12:30 GMT)

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti tells BT Sport: "It was a good week because we recovered a lot of players from injury and Lucas Digne was suspended. I think we are a better ream today and a difficult game but a great opportunity to come back and win.

"The clean sheet is a good start to try to win, if you don't concede it is at worst a draw. We did not defend too well recently and we need to try to defend better. Unite are a strong team, a lot of quality up front so we have to pay attention there.

"I consider the goalkeeper a player so it can be rotated as other positions on the pitch. Robin Olsen did well against Newcastle and I hope Jordan Pickford can do the same today.

"The physical aspect will not be decisive. The attitude, spirit and quality of the players will be. I don't doubt they are not fit, they are a team used to playing every three days."

  20. 'It is a quick turnaround'published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2020

Everton v Man Utd (12:30 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tells BT Sport: "Every day when you play for Manchester United you need to deliver. You are in the best position, the best shirt over your head and you must go out there and enjoy it. That is what I felt when I played and I want them to express their talents.

"What we want form them today is a confident team working together.

"Thursday morning was a hard one, we did not get back until 4am so Friday we saw them getting ready. Of course it is a quick turnaround.

"You can see the diamond formation worked well against Leipzig. You don't have to delve too far back to find good results, we did not blow anyone away with the result against Arsenal. Every game lives its own life, the first goal is massive today and hopefully we can start brightly.

"Decision making in defence, they are human beings and sometimes you do make mistakes. The first goal in Istanbul, I don't know what to say about it. It is one of the worst goals I have conceded as a manager. Personal mistakes cost you.

"Carlo Ancelotti is a top coach and I am sure they are enjoying working under him and he is enjoying working for quality players."
