West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone spent eight years at Manchester United but tonight gets the chance to play in a first team game involving them for the very first time.

Johnstone had seven loan moves before making a permanent switch to West Brom in 2018.

Baggies boss Slaven Bilic is delighted with the 27-year-old's form so far this season.

"We didn’t have doubts but there were question marks because you are changing the level," said Bilic. "You have it with all the players who didn’t play in the Premier League before.

"But very quickly he proved he is a Premier League goalkeeper.

"He is playing well and it is important for him and us that he maintains that and improve because, more than some other teams, we need that kind of goalkeeper. Sam is doing the job really well."

West Brom at home wouldn't be the game you would immediately think of as being Manchester United's 'bogey' fixture.

However. on their last five visits to Old Trafford, the Baggies have secured three wins and a draw.

Immediately before that run was the staggering 5-5 draw at The Hawthorns in Sir Alex Ferguson's last game as a manager.

West Brom are winless in 12 league fixtures since a 2-0 home triumph against Derby in the Championship on 8 July (D6, L6).

Their run of eight games without a league win at the beginning of this season is second only in their history to the 1985-86 campaign (12, also top flight). They went down that season.

The Baggies have led for 108 minutes in top-flight fixtures this season, six more than Manchester United have managed.

"We had our chances, but we couldn’t score and they made two or three chances on the counter attack and we lost the game.

“We knew before the game that you cannot give them the first goal. We had more chances and them but we lost. Mourinho’s teams are like this, you make a mistake and they punish you on the counter attack.

"It is not easy Harry Kane and Ndombele are on halfway, the space is so difficult, our possession play was good, but football is the boxes and that is where we were not good."
