West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic, speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s a massively important win. This was THE game. There are enough games after this one, but it was very important - crucial - for both teams to win the game. That’s why we saw quite an open game with nearly 40 shots and many chances. We’re delighted that we won the game. We showed the quality and showed character. We had chances to go two up and make it a little easier for us. I told the guys that now we have to rest, build on this and continue to improve.

"The guys are reading the papers. Everybody’s asking when are you going to get your first win. That’s why it was incredibly important for us to go over that block. I see this as more than three points, because it’s our first win. Second, we’ve done it against a team who is down there with us. It’s a great boost for our confidence and for the games that are coming."

On Sam Johnstone’s contribution: "We’re a team that’s going to need a goalkeeper to be there in every game. Sometimes it’s going to be one save like against Burnley, sometimes it’s going to be four like against Man United, sometimes it’s going to be two or three like tonight. Sam at the moment is doing brilliantly for us and we need it. We don’t have the quality that’s going to keep them without having one or two chances.

"Against Spurs we kept a clean sheet until a few minutes to go and against United we conceded from a penalty, so it’s a great basis for us."

On Conor Gallagher: "He’s got a bit of everything. He’s very calm on the ball, he’s very energetic, he loves to get in the box. A couple of days ago he twisted his ankle a little bit and there was a major doubt, but he wanted to play. He showed character and I’m really happy with his goal and his contribution. If he continues like this he could be massive for us."

West Bromwich Albion

Slaven Bilic, speaking to Sky Sports, on his view on Jurgen Klopp's argument for five substitutes: "We are selfish. I agree with Klopp and Pep but I also agree with Chris Wilder. We don't have big squads. The best line in that meeting was from [Fulham manager] Scott Parker. He said the Premier League should make that decision not us.

"We have to look after our teams. I think it should be the Premier Legaue who make the decision for us."

Would you happily go along if decision was to include five substitutes?

"I wouldn't happily go along, but I would go along as it's a rule that somebody else has made.

“I have to look after my team, and for my team it’s the best to stay with this [three subs]. We don’t have the same quality or quantity of players. Against Spurs, it was good to play at noon, because we’d be hungry even if the game was seven in the morning, so we can benefit from a slow start. To do something that is basically against the interest of the club, it’s no good.”

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic speaking to MOTD: "When are we going to win? That was the question for us. The sooner the better of course and we got it. It's a great boost for our confidence of course. You can call it one of those games where it is more than three points.

"I am delighted for [Conor Gallagher]. He is a young kid but very mature. I wanted him to play of course and boy, if he continues like this, he has a big, big, big career in front of him on a top, top level.

"I said before the season, when I saw our squad, that one of the big things we will need throughout the whole season is a top goalkeeper. Sam Johnstone at the moment is doing it brilliantly for us. He knows that and we are happy to have him.

"It's really good to do it against the team that is around you as this can also, I don't think, because they have a strong manager, but it can also affect them in a negative way. That's what you want basically. It's our chance against them in the future."

Sheffield United

More from Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to MOTD: "If you don’t take your chances and don’t show that quality in and around the box or the penalty area, you’re not going to win games of football. We’ve got nobody to blame but ourselves. I saw it, all the players will have seen it and felt it. I don’t think it’s a difficult one to discuss for pundits or anyone interested in football.

"We need players to show composure in the final third. It’s the top league in the world, or definitely in Europe, so regardless of whether you’re playing Liverpool, Chelsea or anyone else in the division you have to put your chances to bed.

"In the second half the game becomes stretched and opens up. I know it’s not all one-way traffic but we had to go in search [of an equaliser]. The shape becomes a lot looser, which gives them a few opportunities, but I’m looking to the right [at West Brom’s goal] for the majority of the second half.

"It’s difficult to talk about encouragement when you have one point from 10 games, you’re bottom of the division and created enough chances to win a game of football. Nobody’s going to help us, but we have to show a lot more quality in the final third. Yet again, we’re talking about missed opportunities. It’s not going to affect our position if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot like we have tonight."

"He's got a bit of everything," Slaven Bilic says about Conor Gallagher. He also says he twisted his ankle in training the other day and was a major doubt but showed his "enthusiam".

"He has a massive career in front of him," he adds.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United's Chris Basham: "If you look at the first 10 or 15 minutes we started really well. We did really well again in the second half. We are disappointed as it was a massive game. We have let ourselves and the fans down.

"We had some great opportunities to score tonight and had some great chances. We worked on it in training but it's just that composure on the main stage."

On conceding the goal: "It's just one of those that flies past everybody and goes into the bottom corner. We pride ourselves on clean sheets so obviously I'm disappointed too.

"We are hurting when we don't get results. We are used to winning games but we are playing in the Premier League against the best teams in the world. The performances are still good. We are just kicking ourselves in the dressing room today.

"It's a situation that we needed to do [bring on lots of strikers]. The lads up front were brilliant without putting the ball in the back of the net."

Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder speaking to Sky Sports: "I was scratching my head. I thought we started the game well but then it was a poor goal from our point of view.

"We had a good reaction and in the second half we have to go for it. They got chances on the counter-attack but we had enough to win two games there. If we don't show that quality or composure in the final third then we won't get something out of a game where we should get something from it.

"It's a poor clearance at the near post. He's scuffed it and maybe we should have reacted to go and stop that shot. If we deal with the first one, you don't have to react to the second one.

"They know they have been in a game they want to win. They went to the end. The conditioning was good and they were driving the game forward. They weren't half chances. They are really good chances. It terms of the way we played to create those chances we must have done something right but as always the game gets decided because we didn't put it to bed."

On their poor form: "You have to keep believing and hoping. We have to be realistic with the start we have had. We have to get three teams beneth us. That's the situation we are in. I understand people talk about this team not getting many points. We have to give ourselves a fighting chance. We have to pick ourselves up between now and christmas. I'm sure four or five teams in the bottom part of the division would take 17th now. That's the intensity of the league and how cut throat it is. There is nothing wrong with the attitude and desire of the team. It is just the quality in front of goal that has let us down today."

On Jurgen Klopp's comment earlier: "I'm not interested in that today. Maybe that's for another time. As Jurgen made as a good observation we are just on one point. It's not the time to talk about it. Everybody has that right and there's 20 votes in this league. Nobody is looking after Sheffield United right the way through now so we have to look after ourselves. I have a huge amount of respect for Liverpool as a football club and Jurgen Klopp - whether it's looking after the football club, whether it's 'selfish'... By the way, there's a few more managers that have looked after their own clubs... That's enough from me."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone: "That was massive. It was a big game for both teams. We fought hard. We didn’t start that well and were under a lot of pressure.

"We did well and held on to the lead for quite a while. We rode our luck a few times, but we’re buzzing to get the three points. The seven minutes [stoppage time] felt a lot longer. They were on top, everyone could see that.

"There’s no easy fixtures. We have to take the confidence from this into the next game. It’s a springboard to get more points on the board."

On Conor Gallagher's contribution: "Conor is brilliant for us. He’s come from a big club. Since the first day he came through he’s been great. He’s a good lad and you can see why he’s at a big club. Hopefully he keeps improving and helps the team."

On his second-half head injury: "It’s fine, just about!"

West Bromwich Albion

More from West Brom goalscorer Conor Gallagher to MOTD: "I was buzzing to see it hit the back of the net. I've been wanting to score for a while. The feeling is amazing but the main thing is the three points.

"I don't think I hit it very cleanly. I had a few chances from the same area and scuffed a few but thankfully that one went in! It's a very proud moment for me and my family. Hopefully it's just the start.

"We have been desperate for a win this season. A game like this was where we needed to pick up points. We have been deserving of a win.

"The last 10 minutes felt like an hour but the boys dug deep and they had a few chances but Sam Johnstone was great. We did well to come out with a win in the end."

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom goalscorer Conor Gallagher, speaking to Sky Sports: "We were desperate for a win. It’s the first one this season, which is great. It was a well-fought win. The boys are buzzing from the performance, hopefully we can build from this.

"To score is amazing but to get the three points is the most important thing at the end of the day. From all the corners I had quite a lot of space on the edge. I scuffed a few, but fortunately one went in.

"It’s very important to be out of the relegation zone. The most important thing is to stay in the league. We’re not looking too much at the league table at the moment. We’ll take every game as it comes.

"We were positive going into this game. We were unlucky against United and Tottenham, where we played well. We were confident we’d get the bit of luck to get the three points."

West Brom goalscorer Connor Gallagher is asked if moving out of the relegation zone provides a psychological advantage: "It's very important because the aim is to stay in the league," he says.

He adds that they have a bit of momemtum now after this win.

Slaven Bilic shrugs as he walks over to Chris Wilder. A "sorry mate, what can you do?" look.

Wilder doesn't say much when he goes over to his players on the pitch. They trudge straight off.

A huge, huge result for West Brom. Their first win of the season and it moves them out of the relegation zone.

Sheffield United are in a bit of trouble after 10 games.

NOOOOO. What a miss! Has to score, HAS to score!

George Baldock does really well on the right. He beats the defender, drills it in low and Rhian Brewster hits it first time.

It bounces off Branislav Ivanovic, lands straight at the feet of Lys Mousset about five yards out and he manages to poke it over the bar!

Rhian Brewster is invited to shoot from 20 yards because there's nobody around him. He strikes it well, forcing a save from Sam Johnstone, but George Baldock plants the rebound straight back into the keeper's arms with a hopeless chip.

He's not got his shooting boots on today!

Hal Robson-Kanu does so well here. He robs it off Sander Berge, wriggles away and carries it into the Sheffield United half.

But he can't get into the corner and it's straight back up the other end. A one way street.

Well scratch that, they actually have SEVEN minutes. That's a nervous seven minutes for West Brom fans.

John Lundstram's shot is deflected dangerously in the box and falls to Chris Basham. He's a few yards out and initially misses the ball but he's offside anyway.

Minutes left for Sheffield United! They need a goal, desperately.

Matheus Pereira chips it into the box but Darnell Furlong can only head it over the bar.

Wasn't too far away!
