FT: Everton 0-1 Leeds
Everton
Everton defender Mason Holgate to Sky Sports: "We know what kind of game they like to play - man to man, intensive back and forth. I think we got dragged into a sling-off, it’s not a game we wanted to get dragged in to. It comes down to who’s going to nick one at the end, unfortunately they’ve nicked one. We played into their hands, which was disappointing.
"We felt like we had to go forward as fast as we could as well. When it’s like that, it turns it into a 50-50 game. On another day we could have got the goal and we'd be talking about a good result. It’s disappointing, but all we can do is go again.
"When you’re missing the likes of Lucas [Digne] and the captain, Shay [Coleman], it’s always going to impact the team. But I think the boys who came in did well enough.
"We can’t go the entire season winning every single game. We’ve been beaten in a few games now, which we’re not happy with. We know we have to do better than we’re doing and the inconsistency needs to be dropped. We need to get consistency with our results."
On captaining Everton: "I’m proud to wear the armband. It’s the first time for me to captain them in any game. As I’m from Yorkshire, it makes it nicer that it was against Leeds. The club’s been a massive part of my life, but I’m disappointed with the result."
