  1. 'We know we have to do better'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    FT: Everton 0-1 Leeds

    Everton

Everton defender Mason Holgate to Sky Sports: "We know what kind of game they like to play - man to man, intensive back and forth. I think we got dragged into a sling-off, it’s not a game we wanted to get dragged in to. It comes down to who’s going to nick one at the end, unfortunately they’ve nicked one. We played into their hands, which was disappointing.

"We felt like we had to go forward as fast as we could as well. When it’s like that, it turns it into a 50-50 game. On another day we could have got the goal and we'd be talking about a good result. It’s disappointing, but all we can do is go again.

"When you’re missing the likes of Lucas [Digne] and the captain, Shay [Coleman], it’s always going to impact the team. But I think the boys who came in did well enough.

"We can’t go the entire season winning every single game. We’ve been beaten in a few games now, which we’re not happy with. We know we have to do better than we’re doing and the inconsistency needs to be dropped. We need to get consistency with our results."

On captaining Everton: "I’m proud to wear the armband. It’s the first time for me to captain them in any game. As I’m from Yorkshire, it makes it nicer that it was against Leeds. The club’s been a massive part of my life, but I’m disappointed with the result."

  2. 'A difficult victory to achieve'published at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    Everton 0-1 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa to BBC Sport: "It was a victory which was very difficult to achieve. I think we played well.

"But to defend against a team with so many players who can unbalance is complicated.

"We have many players who can play in different areas of the pitch. Those who attack can defend as well, and those who defend know how to attack. This allows for the combinations.

"Raphinha is a player who can unbalance. He can play in any part of the pitch with resources to worry the opponent."

West Brom v Sheffield United (20:00 GMT)

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder says: "I'm sure whoever comes away with a result tonight, it will boost their confidence for the next few games."

His counter-part Slaven Bilic wants to see 'character' from his team and adds: "It should be very competitive and a bit of a nervy game because the players know this will be tight."

  6. 'We could have scored more'published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    Everton 0-1 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds defender Luke Ayling to BBC Match of the Day: "We’ve been working with [Bielsa] for the last two years. It’s the third year of his reign now. I think we have a reputation of being a fit team, but I thought our football was excellent today. We broke them down a few times and I think we could have scored a few more. To hold two good teams [Arsenal and Everton] to zero is also good for us.

"Our first eight games was always going to be a learning curve. I think we’ve learned a lot from those eight games. I think we’re starting to play more football and not just try to be hard to beat. So far, so good.

"It was an open game. We had that bit of quality for the goal. Straight afterwards the game became open and we probably could have scored a few more on the counter-attack. It was very good from us.

"I know quite a lot of people say it, but it is a dream for us to be playing at this level. We were in League One and in the Championship for many years, so to be in the Premier League is what we dreamt of as kids. I hope we can keep playing good football and keep this going."

On Raphinha’s goal: "He’s been doing a lot of that in training. I’m really pleased for him."

West Brom v Sheffield United (20:00 GMT)

It could be a crucial few weeks for West Brom. After this game, they come up against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Leeds and Newcastle in December where they will hope to get a point or two.

Liverpool and Manchester City are also sandwiched in their festive run-in.

But Sheffield United just have more tough fixtures. Southampton, Brighton, Leicester, Manchester United and Everton all to come in December.

A final match against Burnley in 2020 could be the one to capitalise on but that's a long way off yet. They need three points here today.

  9. 'Very entertaining game'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    FT: Everton 0-1 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa to Sky Sports: "It was a very entertaining game. The result was a fair one. The performance of our team was a satisfactory one. It was very difficult to defend against their forwards who are very good.

"Raphinha has adapted very quickly to the Premier League. Victor [Orta, who makes Leeds' signings] anticipated he had the characteristcs to play in the Premier League. He was correct in choosing him."

  10. Poor start so all to play for?published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

West Brom v Sheffield United (20:00 GMT)

These two teams are in dreadful form, to be frank. Both are without a win in the Premier League this season and sit in the bottom two places in the table.

Only Fulham have conceded as many goals as West Brom, who have only scored one in their last six league fixtures.

The Baggies have at least notched up three draws, while Sheffield United have only got one point in nine games.

So it's a BIG game for both sides, who are in desperate need of points, goals, form and a jump up the table - sharpish.

Surely they will both be going for it? Which is good news for us.

Superb game of football. Everton played their part but Leeds were very good indeed. Imagine what Bielsa could do with, say, Man City's squad...

    CH, Warwick

Really poor by Everton. All this talk about how great Ancelotti is rather premature.

    Richard, Maida Vale

Well done Leeds. Deserved winners and far and away the better side tonight. Everton will finish up lower than Leeds - proof that positive, creative football wins the day.

  14. 'I told Raphinha he would score a goal'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2020

    Everton 0-1 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Sky Sports: "We started well on the front foot, creating chances. We knew eventually it would come.

"It's a special moment for Rapha [Raphinha], I've told him he's going to score a goal. He's been close the last few weeks. He's done excellent.

"We're just happy to go out on the pitch and give our all for 90 minutes. It's nice to have a good performance [in front of England boss Gareth Southgate]. Keep working hard and playing well."

What do Everton take away from that? Well, for a start, they've been hit by injury so perspective is needed. And they created plenty themselves, so they don't need to rip it up and start again.

But Calvert-Lewin had precious little service, Richarlison was out of sorts and James Rodriguez showed moments of quality but not often enough.

    Allan is a player, though.

So, is there a record for most attempted shots in a game? And if so, how close is this?

    Jamey, Northallerton

Not sure what the record is Jamey, but there were 38 shots at goal in this game. Which is a lot. Especially for a 1-0.

A huge win for Leeds coming from a thrilling game. For much of the game it looked like both teams would be coming away from it with regret. Just one of the sides will now, though.

Sharon Pearce: Richarlison spends more time on the ground than on his feet.

Craig Spittle: God bless Bielsa. Put on this earth to provide entertainment to the masses.

Feel that Everton have really missed Lucas Digne down that left flank. He's been one of the most consistent performers in the Prem so far this season, linking well with Calvert-Lewin and Rodriguez.
