  2. 'When you lose matches the confidence goes down'published at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta to BBC Sport: "I was shocked [at the collision] because I saw the reaction of the players. They were asking the doctors. We knew David Luiz was OK, it was just a cut. Raul Jimenez looked pretty bad.

"The doctor did all the tests and protocols to make sure the player [Luiz] was safe to continue. David was just worried about his cut, he never lost consciousness. He couldn't really head the ball, he was uncomfortable - nothing else - so we took him off.

"They had two shots on target in the first half and scored twice. The team showed a real resilience, togetherness and belief to try to win in the second half. We generated the chances but didn't score.

"We need more goals to win football matches. We need to keep supporting the players. All players go through [tough] periods. We're creating chances but struggling to score goals. That's the difference between winning and losing.

"When you lose matches the confidence goes down because they believe things can happen again. You need to win after a defeat. We've been doing this in my time here. This is the first time since we've been here [that they've had a losing run]."

On whether they can turn it round next weekend against Spurs: "It would be great. There's not a bigger motivation than for us to go to Spurs and try to beat them. "

Wesley Baker: Very disappointed with Arsenal at this time. No creativity, no speed. Arteta can turn this around but we need to offload Xhaka he is a very negative player and stops speed and creativity. Where is the speed and passing?

Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, speaking to MOTD about Raul Jimenez: "He is doing a scan. What was the reaction? Panic, panic panic. Code red. You could see the faces on the team-mates. It was a serious situation. It's awful and terrible."

On Wolves' win: "I think we started well and created chances. We achieved two good goals. The team was good today."

Big Banana: This is the kind of game that would have suited Ozil. A “bad” Ozil in this kind of game is better than Willock. We were gonna have more of the ball, so no need sacrificing creativity for extra grit, esp at home.

  9. 'We followed the protocol'published at 21:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: "David [Luiz] is OK. He has a nasty cut and he was conscious. He had a test and was completely fine. We were really worried for Raul Jimenez because it was really nasty.

"When you see the reaction of the players you know something really bad is happening. We followed the protocol to check he [Luiz] had not lost any consciousness which he hadn't and then some tests. They will continue to do some more checks on him. He was really uncomfortable and couldn't really head the ball and couldn't continue."

On his side's performance: "It's a really bad result. We had our moments. We had a great reaction in the second half. The team showed desire but the goal didn't arrive."

Rob Elmore: Arsenal 8 points off the relegation zone - and people still think Arteta has improved them?!

Martin Ward: Can't blame Pepe for that performance.

Craig Smith: Before the start of the season Arsenal needed more creativity, more goal scorers to back up Aubameyang, leadership, and defensive stability. With Gabriel & Partey he might achieve the latter short term but he looks destined to fail on the former three.

  12. 'We have to sort this out very quickly'published at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

    Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock: "On behalf of the club and myself, we give our best regards to Raul Jimenez. We hope he recovers well. It was a bad incident.

"David Luiz has recovered well. He looked good when I saw him in dressing room."

On why they are struggling: "I'm not too sure. It's not one thing we can put our finger on. We're not flowing at the moment. We have to sort this out very quickly as a team. We need to perform better. It's not good enough.

"It's nothing that we can't change. We want to bounce back from this game and continue to stick together and get back to the flow we ended last season in.

"I don't think the incident is why the flow stopped. We're not good enough at the moment. We need to sort it out in the group. We're a big team and we want to compete for things.

"We have to regroup and talk about it tomorrow and bounce back asap."

  13. Positive stats for Wolvespublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

Wolves have amassed 17 points in this season’s Premier League (W5 D2 L3); this is their most after their first 10 games of a top-flight campaign since 1979-80 (20 – adjusting to three points for a win).

During 2020, only Manchester United (nine) have won more Premier League fixtures away from home than Wolves (seven – level with Liverpool, Manchester City and Southampton).

Pedro Neto has scored as many goals in Wolves' 10 Premier League games this season as he managed in 29 such appearances last term (three). He has also scored in back-to-back matches for the very first time in the competition.

    Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo to Sky Sports: "Raul Jimenez is doing a scan now. He's conscious. He's OK inside the gravity of the problem."

On what it was like at the time: "You start hearing code red. It's serious. It was a bad moment for everybody. You see panic in their [medical staff] eyes and you start thinking how is he? We are worried.

"He speaks, he's aware. We have to have a proper assessment. He's in good hands."

On his side's reaction: "Amazing. I'm very proud today. This team showed heart today - a belief in the way they ran and worked was very good to see.

"We want to grow. We want to improve. We did things very well. There were many things not OK."

Will he stick to four at the back? "We have to improve. We want to become not so predictable. We'll never let go of our foundation, our identity. We can grow inside of the game and improve our game and have more players involved."

  18. Look away Arsenal fans...published at 21:29 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2020

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

Arsenal have lost three consecutive Premier League games at the Emirates for the second time since the start of last season (also December 2019); before this, they had never previously suffered three consecutive home defeats in the competition.

They have lost five of their last eight league games (W2 D1), this after having only lost five of their first 22 such matches under Mikel Arteta (W11 D6 L5).

The Gunners recorded just two shots on target at home to Wolves this evening - since Arsene Wenger left the club, they've only managed fewer in one home game in the Premier League (1 v Man City in December 2019).

    FT: Arsenal 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves skipper Conor Coady, speaking to Sky Sports: "We were massively worried when it happened [Raul Jimenez and David Luiz accidental clash of heads]. We knew straight away it was a horrible clash of heads.

"But we just hope and pray everything is OK. I was at the front just behind him when it happened. It's something we never want to see.

"The most important thing is that both players are OK. But he is with the right people now and that's the most important thing. He is in hospital and by all accounts he is awake and breathing."
