    West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa

All credit to Villa, who were nowhere to be seen for the opening 15 minutes or so but since then they have been dominant. Jack Grealish's fine form continues.

    Jack Grealish

Brilliant! It had been coming, Villa had wrestled the momentum away from West Ham almost completely and their skipper has done the business again.

Jack Grealish drifts in from the left and collects the ball in midfield, about halfway inside the West Ham half. He turns, runs at goal, the Hammers back off and he shoots from 20-ish yards, smacking a right-footed shot into the far corner.

There was a slight deflection on it. Got to get into him there...

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2020

    West Ham 1-0 Aston Villa

The free-kick is dangerous and that's a good save! Conor Hourihane nails a left-footer around the wall, it's keeper's side so you'd expect Lukasz Fabianski to make the stop and he does, a big left hand.

Aston Villa have addressed a goal issue in Ollie Watkins and some would say it was a well measured signing - some would say it was a gamble - he's never played in the Premier League. But he's really stepped up and shown he has the quality to score in this league. Villa as a whole have become a better attacking team. Ross Barkley on loan - they've made really good signings and it tells in their league position.

It's all Villa for the now - Trezeguet is tripped in a dangerous spot on the outskirts of the area...

  8. CLOSE!published at 20 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Aston Villa

And that's a very good chance! Villa work the corner short to Matt Targett, he loops in a cross to the far post where Ezri Konsa heads onto the roof of the net.

    West Ham 1-0 Aston Villa

We haven't had a shot on goal since that second-minute opener. Villa are starting to get on the ball more now, and that's better,

Naturally Jack Grealish is the catalyst, rolling away from danger and finding Trezeguet on the right of the box, he shoots low and it's deflected wide.

    West Ham 1-0 Aston Villa

There was plenty of debate over the schedule when it came to playing on a Saturday lunchtime but waiting until Monday night hasn't done Villa any favours so far. They've started with the urgency of Call the Midwife.

Speaking of tedium, my laptop is still asking me to wait for the system event notification service. I don't think we'll see that working again tonight will we...

There are three points between West Ham (fifth) and Newcastle (13th). Has everyone got better or is that a big old slice of midtable mediocrity?

Every ground is eerie at the moment of course but the cavernous Olympic Stadium seems even more so. Aston Villa can't get the ball at the moment, the home side well on top.

West Ham are fifth in the as-it-stands table. FIFTH.

Angelo Ogbonna's opener for West Ham (1 minute & 50 seconds) was their fastest Premier League goal since November 2016 against Manchester United (Diafra Sakho netting after 1 minute & 30 seconds).

There's a name I'd erased from my mind. He was brilliant for about six weeks.

You could sense it - the way Jarrod Bowen lined it up and whipped in a fabulous ball. The goalkeeper, it's a difficult one for him, it's quite close range. West Ham have been such a threat this season, attacking the ball, plenty of height in the team and Angelo Ogbonna just gets above everyone and hammers it down into the net.

My other laptop is still wheeling away in the corner of the room. I think that could be toast.

Can Villa react better than a BBC machine? We shall see.

It was zonal marking that did for the Hammers. I don't like it, there, I said it.

GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Aston Villapublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2020

    Angelo Ogbonna (2 mins)

What a start! West Ham win a long throw, a shot is blocked out for a corner and from the set-piece Angelo Ogbonna clambers all over Matt Targett and heads into the back of the net.

    It was all too easy.
