Brackley Town captain Gareth Dean has urged his team to "show the country what they're capable of" when they visit Tranmere tonight.

National League North's Brackley are ranked 56 places below their hosts.

They are one of 14 non-league clubs who are one win from the chance of drawing a Premier League side in round three.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to do something that you dream of," Dean told BBC Radio Northampton.

"The majority of the people tuning in are going to want us to win so we've just got to use that energy and put that into our performance."

  6. 'Stranger things have happened'published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

Tranmere Rovers v Brackley Town (19:55 GMT)

A penalty shootout win over Bishop's Stortford sent Brackley Town into the second round for the third time in eight seasons but they have never reached the third round of the competition.

Since the draw for round two was made, their League Two opponents Tranmere, who were then managerless, have won all three of their league games and appointed Keith Hill as their new boss.

"Stranger things have happened in my lifetime than Brackley going up to Tranmere and winning that football match, but we understand what that will take," said Brackley captain Gareth Dean.

"We've got the opportunity to show the country what we're capable of doing on a football pitch, which for me is an enjoyable opportunity and something that we might not ever have again."

Here's how the hosts Tranmere Rovers line up. Defender Lee O'Connor misses out through injury.

Brackley Town's XI is missing a player on the teamsheet. It looks like Akeem Hinds could feature at right back? There's also an unnamed player on the bench.

Brackley confirmed team so far: Lewis, Dean, Coleman, Franklin, Armson, Byrne, Murombedzi, Lowe, Mitford, Ndlovu

  12. Saints looking to make historypublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

Tranmere Rovers v Brackley Town (19:55 GMT)

Tranmere played in the last League Cup final at the old Wembley Stadium, losing to Leicester City in 2000 when John Aldridge was their manager.

The club’s best period in the Cup came around the turn of the Millennium, when they reached the quarter-finals three times in five seasons.

In their ranks is former Everton forward James Vaughan, who eclipsed team-mate Wayne Rooney and Leeds’ James Milner as the youngest Premier League goalscorer with a goal against Crystal Palace in 2005 at the age of 16 years and 271 days.

Brackley Town have been in existence for 130 years but have never made it into the top four divisions of English football. This is their third appearance in the second round of the FA Cup, although all three of those have come in the last eight years.

The Saints can also point to their FA Trophy win in 2018 as their finest moment, when they triumphed on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Bromley at Wembley Stadium.

  13. Postpublished at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2020

    It's FA Cup second-round time!

We have 40 teams, 14 non-league clubs, and 13 live games on the BBC.

Those non-league clubs are all playing for a place in the third round draw which could see them come up against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal.

It all gets under way tonight as National League North side Brackley Town attempt to upset League Two's Tranmere Rovers.

There are a further 18 ties across Saturday and Sunday before the third-round draw - live on BBC One from 19:00 GMT - on Monday.

The 20th and final tie of the second round is an all-non-league affair between Canvey Island and Boreham Wood (19:45 GMT) on Monday.
