I'm not surprised to see Kamara come back in. He's well suited to the European nights. I think that is the difference for Rangers this year, they've become far more adaptable.

  2. 'It's a massive test for us'published at 17:46

    Benfica v Rangers (17:55)

Speaking to BT Sport Rangers manager Steven Gerrard offered his assessment of the threat Benfica pose.

"It's a massive test for us. We're aware of that. They've started ever so strong. They're a very technical side with players capable of hurting you in any given moment. It's a big challenge but one we're really looking forward to."

On the changes in midfield: "The idea of bringing Jack and Kamara in, they have a lot of number 10s on the pitch and we have to try and nullify that threat. These players have done that before in Portugal against Porto and Braga. Joe [Aribo] can bring a lot going forward too."

On continuing the positive start in Europe: "We can tap into that experience and knowlegde. I want my players to respect Benfica but we need to be confident in our own ability. We're a good side too..."

Benfica's defence now boasts Nicolas Otamendi, formerly of Manchester City.

Anyone who has played Fantasy football will agree that Otamendi's always good for a goal from a set piece... but also prone to a late gaffe to cost clean sheet points.

How will he fare against record-seeking Alfredo Morelos tonight?

  6. Morelos a Muller-lite?published at 17:30

    Benfica v Rangers (17:55)

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus told Sport TV: "The striker [Alfredo Morelos] is very well known. He's a Colombian who doesn't have much of a playing style, he doesn't have an elegant aesthetic, but he's very dangerous. He's got that style like Gerd Muller.

"They [Rangers] play in a very complicated system, they try to imitate Liverpool's 4-3-3, which I know from playing against them in the Club World Cup final.

"They'll create more problems for us than the teams we've faced so far. Whoever wins will have the best chance of qualifying and it's sure to be a fiercely contested game."

  8. Benfica 'a different challenge' - Gerrardpublished at 17:20

    Benfica v Rangers (17:55)

Can Rangers put their Portuguese experience to good use when they face Benfica tonight?

Rangers were unbeaten against Porto in the group stage of last season's Europa League, winning the match at Ibrox.

And they beat Braga home and away to reach the last 16.

"We can certainly tap into that experience and try to use that to take confidence from it and use it as belief going into the game," Gerrard said earlier this week.

"But it is a different challenge, a different team. It is a huge challenge, but for sure we are going to have to find a performance that is of the level of Porto and Braga if we have got any chance.

"Benfica have started the strongest in terms of the Portuguese teams this season."
