I was just about to ask if Uefa could find a way of ensuring these teams never play each other again... and then finally a goal.

The point still stands, though. Surely nobody wants to see another Wales v Republic of Ireland game. Ever.

I know he wears number nine for Spurs now, but Wales look so much better with Gareth Bale playing in the role of himself, not in the role of Kieffer Moore or Harry Kane.

Neco Williams shoots, but his speculative effort drifts well wide.

Much better from Wales in this second half and they are now back at the top of their Nations League group.

GOAL - David Brookspublished at 66 mins

    Wales 1-0 Republic of Ireland

Wales ahead through the head of David Brooks!

It's a simple enough goal as Wales win a game of head tennis with Kieffer Moore causing trouble and allowing Gareth Bale to cleverly head back across goal and Brooks got himself into a goalscoring area and made no mistake.

A goal that came from nothing as Wales are rewarded for making a positive tactical change.

Kieffer Moore goes down in the box and Wales scream for a penalty.

However, the referee isn't buying what Moore is selling, which is a pretty blatant dive.

The Cardiff forward is booked for simulation.

It's wet enough as well for a high dive. I'll give him an 8.3 for that, roll needs work, he's no Tom Daly.

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Wales switch to 4-2-3-1. Ben Davies moves to left-back and David Brooks will play in the Aaron Ramsey role.

Wales miss Ramsey and Joe Allen desperately.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 62 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

A bold, attacking move from Wales who will change their shape.

Rhys Norrington-Davies is replaced by Kieffer Moore.

  8. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Chris Mepham takes a risky extra touch, but just recovers to deny Adam Idah.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Jason Knight of Derby County replaces Daryl Horgan to win his second cap for the Republic of Ireland.

    As it stands....

Wales will need to beat Finland on Wednesday to win the group, with a point good enough for Finland to win out by a point.

Ireland will need only a draw with Bulgaria to avoid relegation.

A goal for Wales changes that equation.

  11. Bad news for Wales but happy Jose?published at 52 mins

Ben Davies will be suspended for Wednesday's final Nations League game against Finland as a result of that booking.

I suppose his Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho will be pleased the left-back will get a rest at least.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 50 mins

Ben Davies into the book for tripping Jayson Molumby.

  13. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Gareth Bale wriggles into a little bit of space and gets a shot off left-footed, but it lacks power and Darren Randolph is easily able to save.

  14. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Wales 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Adam Idah thankfully seems to have recovered from the knock he took when he was challenged by Joe Rodon in the first half.

The rain is lashing down in Cardiff now and actually, you might need to ring the coastguard.

    No changes from either side.

We are back under way and I am drinking a bucket of tea out of one of those mugs from a shop where you buy joggers and other things for the gym you'll never use (if you're lazy like me).

The more times you see Joe Morrell's little kick out on Jayson Molumby the more you think 'that's probably a red card in 2020.'

It was petulant, think David Beckham on Diego Simeone, but not many players get away with retribution of any kind in the modern game.

  20. HALF-TIME - Wales 0-0 Republic of Irelandpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

Shane Duffy's early early header and a couple of Robbie Brady chances mean the visitors have shaded this one, but we are goalless at the break.

I'll stick the kettle on, what are you having?
