    Quote Message

Andy Considine hadn't done anything to deserve to drop out, but I think, if Steve Clarke had left Kieran Tierney out and we lost, he would have to answer a lot of questions

Former Scotland manager Craig Brown tells the tale. The man who last guided us to a tournament made sure his players were first off, shirts were tucked in, and once told BBC Scotland that at the national anthem, he informed the team "if you don't know the words, just make yer mooth go!"

Thankfully for you all, I've got this covered. While you read this, I'm away for a piece of white chocolate confectionary...

O Flower of Scotland,When will we seeYour like again,That fought and died for,Your wee bit Hill and Glen,And stood against him,Proud Edward's Army,And sent him homeward,To think again.

Those days are past now,And in the pastThey must remain,But we can still rise now,And be the nation again,That stood against him,Proud Edward's Army,And sent him homeward,To think again.

  4. Tadic returns for Serbiapublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2020

    Serbia v Scotland (19:45)

Serbia make four changes from the team that drew 2-2 in Turkey last month and the big news, as mentioned earlier, is that captain Aleksandar Kolarov has failed to recover from the back injury that ruled the veteran defender out at the weekend for Inter Milan.

Suggestions are that Sevilla midfielder Nemanja Gudelj could be asked to deputise at the back.

No surprise that Dusan Tadic, the former Southampton man now at Ajax, returns to midfield in place of Sassuolo's Filip Duricic, who misses out anyway through Covid-19 infection.

Predrag Rajkovic, who plays for Reims in France, replaces Eibar's Marko Dmitrovic in goal.

Eintracht Frankfurt's Filip Kostic gets the nod on the left-wing ahead of Montpellier's more defensive Mihailo Ristic.

  10. Who is the referee?published at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2020

    Serbia v Scotland (19:45)

Spaniard Antonio Mateu Lahoz will take charge in Belgrade on Thursday and, despite his wealth of experience, has never officiated a Scotland game before.

He did, however, oversee Rangers’ Europa League win over Feyenoord at Ibrox last season and Celtic’s defeat in the last 16 of the same competition at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg in 2018.

Scottish referee Craig Thomson says he is “not a showman” and generally is “happy to take a back seat” in matches.

“Uefa are taking no chances, with the four selected for the play-off the current top refs,” he says. “Lahoz is a nice guy and his English is very good so Scotland should be happy with his appointment.

“But VAR will be used, so the Scottish players need to be wary that any subtle pushes and pulls in the penalty area will be detected and punished, unlike at home.”

    Billy Dodds
Former Scotland striker on BBC Sportsound

As the designated Motherwell supporter in the building, I feel as if it's my place to point out there are two Fir Park stars starting in the Scotland defence tonight in the form of Declan Gallagher and Stephen O'Donnell.

However, after the latter's lapse resulted in Celtic's second goal of a 4-1 win on Sunday, Billy Dodds has this message...

    Quote Message

Stephen O'Donnell will have to defender better than he did for Motherwell against Celtic on Sunday

  14. Tierney, Robertson and Christie returnpublished at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2020

    Serbia v Scotland (19:45)

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke makes three changes to the side that beat Czech Republic 1-0 last month and there are no major surprises.

Arsenal's Kieran Tierney returns in place of Andy Considine on the left of a back three despite the Aberdeen veteran proving a worthy stand-in.

Captain Andrew Robertson was always going to return at left-back in place of Greg Taylor, while Celtic's Ryan Christie gets the nod in place of the injured Ryan Fraser as support to Lyndon Dykes up front.
