Almost a bizarre opener at the other end.

Tyler Walker tries to get on the end of a long ball forward, but it bounces goalwards off the underside of his chin.

Birmingham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge shows sharp reactions to slip out a hand and stop it.

I think that'll go down as an effort on target...

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

The set piece comes to nothing as Blues defender Marc Roberts heads way off target.

Dom Hyam had a good handful of his shirt, but referee Oliver Langford was happy with that.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham win the first corner of the game after some high-pressing sees the Blues win the ball just inside the Coventry half.

Riley McGree races into the are area before being closed down, and George Friend then wins the corner.

Coventry striker Tyler Walker is looking bright up front, but he's not had enough support so far.

Played in behind again - this time on the left of the box - he puts the ball back across goal with the angle too narrow for a meaningful shot.

But there is no Sky Blue shirt anywhere near getting on the end of it.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

First real chance of the game, and it's a let-off for Coventry.

A diagonal ball in from Mikel San Jose picks out Lukas Jutkiewicz at the back post.

But the big striker glances his header wide of the right-hand upright.

A man with his heading ability will probably feel he should have hit the target.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

Jeremie Bela gets another chance to sling one into the Coventry box, this time from out wide.

His second delivery is far better, but it's a Sky Blues head which gets to it.

The hosts have conceded eight goals from set pieces this season, so the Blues will have hopes of some joy this evening.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham have a chance to get into the Coventry box for the first time this evening, but Jeremie Bela floats a nothing free kick into the box and it's easily cleared.

Lukas Jutkiewicz had won the set piece with some good hold-up play.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

Birmingham defender Harlee Dean pops up again with a vital interception, this time cutting out a ball into the box by Callum O'Hare.

The Sky Blues are on top but yet to call visiting keeper Neil Etheridge into action.

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

The hosts are doing most of the running so far.

Coventry striker Tyler Walker is almost slipped in again but a good covering challenge by Blues skipper Harlee Dean snuffs out the danger inside the box.

  10. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Birmingham

Tyler Walker gets in behind the Birmingham defence to latch onto a ball forward from Liam Kelly.

But the on-loan striker is forced right to the byline and can't find a team-mate with his cutback.

Coventry have a good spell of possession though, before Ben Sheaf skews an effort from outside the box well wide of goal.

Coventry have switched to a back four this evening.

Will that help shore up the Sky Blues' defence?

Mark Robins' men have conceded a Championship-high 23 goals in their 11 games this season.

That's four more than the next worst defence, which belongs to Wycombe Wanderers.

    Birmingham are playing 4-2-3-1.

  16. Sky Blues looking over shoulderpublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2020

    Coventry v Birmingham (19:45 GMT)

A run of one win in nine games has left Coventry City just above the relegation places.

Mark Robins' men are just a point above the bottom three, while Sheffield Wednesday are back within touching distance of the Sky Blues after having their points deduction cut from 12 points to six.

Fail to win tonight and Coventry could be in a spot of bother by the end of the weekend if other results go against them.

Birmingham City aren't too much further up the table in 17th place.

But the Blues come into the game with a six-point cushion to the drop zone, and they're also six points adrift of the top six.

The eagle-eyed among you will have noticed both clubs have named nine substitutes.

The increase in the size of the matchday squad comes after the EFL board agreed to increase the number of substitutes allowed from three to five.

It's effectively back to the rules we had when the 2019-20 Championship season restarted in June after the first coronavirus lockdown.

Managers have three windows in which to make their substitutions, excluding half-time.
