    Slovakia 0-0 Scotland

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a big chance for Liam Palmer. He needs to get his head over it. Oli McBurnie could've done better with that first touch

  2. CLOSE!published at 7 mins

    Slovakia 0-0 Scotland

Ryan Christie gets in behind the home defence and his angled shot is easily stopped by the keeper.

Moments later, Oli McBurnie is let down by his first touch inside the box in front of goal. The ball breaks to Liam Palmer and the wing-back hammers a rising, angled shot just over from the edge of the penalty area.

  3. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Slovakia 0-0 Scotland

Craig Gordon has to push away a long-range strike from Juraj Kucka.

Plenty of power on it but it was never going to beat the veteran keeper.

  4. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Slovakia 0-0 Scotland

The hosts are dominating early possession but no scares for Scotland.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    And away we go.

  6. Almost there...published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

The teams are out. Scotland in their white & very pale blue away kit.

There's a mix up with the anthems as Flower of Scotland comes on instead of Yes Sir, I Can Boogie...

The players put on a brave face and sing along anyway.

  9. Can Scotland make it 10 unbeaten?published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

If Scotland avoid defeat in Trnava, they will equal a record that has stood for almost 100 years.

The last time the national side went 10 games unbeaten was between March 1924 and February 1927, all of which were against the other home nations.

  10. Not so pretty in pinkpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

The last time Scotland were in Slovakia was in 2016 and they got a bit of a skelping.

Robert Mak scored twice and Adam Nemec made it 3-0 with a header in a calamitous 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Scotland made up ground to finish the group level on points with Slovakia but with an inferior goal difference and missed out on the play-offs. I can't remember who ended up in first place...

  11. Same again would do nicelypublished at 13:42 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

Scotland got the better of Slovakia at Hampden last month, with Lyndon Dykes knocking in the only goal early in the second half.

Steve Clarke's men were pretty comfortable after that and substitute Oli McBurnie came close to a late second goal when his header crashed off the crossbar.

  12. Four changes for Slovakiapublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

Scotland aren't the only ones making changes, but new Slovakia head coach Stefan Tarkovic keeps his down to four from the side that won in Northern Ireland on Thursday.

Mlada Bolslav's Robert Mazan comes into defence in place of veteran Tomas Hubocan, who came out of international retirement to inspire Slovakia in Belfast but misses out with a bruised muscle.

Minnesota United's Jan Gregus and Genk's Patrik Hrosovsky are given a start in midfield, with Omonia Nicosia's Michal Duris up front. Robert Mak, Albert Rusnak and Stanislav Lobotka drop to the bench

Jablonec striker Ivan Schranz was called up following the win in Belfast and is on the bench along with former Dundee United loanee Pavol Safranko.

Shranz was added to the squad after former Rangers and Manchester City winger Vladimir Weiss, currently with Slovan Bratislava, and David Hancko, the defender on loan to Sparta Prague from Fiorentina, returned to their clubs through illness.

  13. 'With the right service, McBurnie unplayable'published at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

    Chris Iwelumo
    Former Scotland striker

    Quote Message

I think he's quality. He ticks all boxes as a striker - mobility, presence, link-up play. He puts his head where it hurts and is an absolute pain for defenders. With the right service, he can be unplayable. He gets a bit of stick, but doesn't shy away from it. Once he gets his first Scotland goal and that weight is off his shoulders, he can kick on.

  14. Origins of a new national anthem...published at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

So, just how did a best-selling Euro disco anthem become Scotland's new unofficial national anthem?

The song by Spanish duo Baccara spent a single week at the top of the UK charts in 1977.

It was originally adopted by fans as a tribute to Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine - who made his Scotland debut at the age of 33 last month - after he starred in a spoof video of the song on his stag do.

  15. Yes Sir, Scotland can boogiepublished at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

Okay, who still has Yes Sir, I Can Boogie stuck in their head after the players' celebrations in the dressing room the other night?

On Off The Ball yesterday, Professor Jason Leitch suggested a Proclaimers cover version for a Euros send-off song, which would be pop gold.

How about a roller disco video with all the squad and staff? I'm sure Steve Clarke would love that... Coach John Carver may be advised to give it a miss since he ruptured his calf leaping in delight after David Marshall's match-winning save in Belgrade.

  16. New man at the helm for Slovakiapublished at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

Slovakia made the bold move of sacking manager Pavel Hapal before their Euro play-off final against Northern Ireland.

Stefan Tarkovic is the interim man in charge and he will be feeling pretty good after that 2-1 extra-time win in Belfast.

Tarkovic had been assistant to Jan Kozak during his five year reign as Slovakia boss from 2013.

  17. Why does it matter?published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

Topping Nations League Group B2 means promotion to the A leagues next time, mixing with the big boys of Europe.

A streak of good results gives our ranking a boost, although it is probably too late to secure a second seeding for the World Cup qualifying draw in December.

And then it provides another path to Qatar 2022 since the European play-offs will be contested by the 10 group runners-up and the best two Nations League group winners.

"Everyone involved with the Scottish team should realise we're in Euro 2020 because of the Nations League pathway. It's a very important tournament for us," said Steve Clarke yesterday.

  18. What do Scotland need?published at 13:14 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

This game should be easier on the nerves after the shootout drama in Serbia. After all, there is another chance to win the group in Israel on Wednesday.

Two draws would also do the job.

Slovakia, with just one point from four matches, are out of the running, but they too are on a high after reaching next summer's delayed European Championship with an extra time win in Belfast.

  20. Who did you pick?published at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2020

    Slovakia v Scotland (14:00)

We always give you a chance to pick a team for big Scotland games and here was the most popular XI.

Most of you stuck with Thursday's heroes, although there were places for Stuart Armstrong and Leigh Griffiths, who is on the bench again today.

Scott McTominay was the most popular choice at right-back, which is rather odd, while a back four led the way despite Steve Clarke's continued preference for three centre-halves.

Absolutely nothing like the real thing...
