This is a game laced in intrigue. Newcastle had chances to finish the Baggies off in the first half but didn't take them. The visitors have made a couple of changes and have come flying out of the blocks in the second half. Newcastle look a little stunned.

West Brom had nearly 60% possession at the end of the first half but were not doing much with it. Now they are.

It was Matt Phillips with the cross into the penalty area for Furlong to finish. The West Brom player got in front of Jamal Lewis to thump it into the net. A beautiful finish.

It has a better feel to it now this West Brom team. Immediately they look more forward and direct and balanced. They are able to ask different questions of Newcastle.

Charlie Austin will want to prove a point. He is a bubbly character and a good lad but also outspoken and he will want to prove himself here.

Steve Bruce is getting through a few bottles of water on the touchline. He'll be reaching for something a little stronger if his side finish the job.

The Baggies have it all to do if they are to avoid an eighth defeat in 12 Premier League games. Charlie Austin and Kieran Gibbs are on for Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant.

Newcastle get us back under way, I don't think they'll be conceding 20 seconds after kicking-off.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Sport: "A very good win, it is the best way to leave it late because there is less chance for them to bring it back.

"Wolves had a couple of good spells when our goalkeeper made some good saves but to go down to 10 men and win the penalty was excellent. To get the goal and clean sheet here is excellent.

"We don't get too many penalties, Anwar El Ghazi took it in the 6-1 loss at Manchester City so it was between him and Jack Grealish.

"There was not much in the cautions but Mike Dean decided a lot of them were. John McGinn's was just a foul in the game. He made it a bit of a local derby without the supporters here, we competed very well.

"We are without two players now, Matty Cash's fifth yellow card of the season and Douglas Luiz after he jumped for the ball. There was not a consistency about the decisions."

Wolves

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Sport: "Second half was more open with both team engaging to attack. It is disappointing to end the game in such a frustrating way. Two good teams competing. Attack, defence, it is a game of football."

On the amount of cards shown: "You should ask Mike about that. Who am I to question them?"

On Fabio Silva: "He worked very hard. He was linking, combining and had chances. That is the point, to grow and to improve."

How do Wolves bounce back? "By working hard, recovering and preparing for the next one."

It's been comfortable from Newcastle, they got a bit tired towards the end of the half but if you look at the organisation it's a dream start. Especially for someone like Newcastle. They can rely on that defensive shape, they can rely on that organisation and that's what they've done.

Strange as it sounds they're in control but without the ball. You just sense that they are possibly getting a bit tired, that's the lack of training so we'll have to see how that plays out.

Slaven Bilic will be pleased with how his side have come back into this after making a shocking start. His blood must have been boiling when, 20 seconds after seeing his side get the game under way, they were fishing the ball out of their own net. Criminal.
