It was just a ball punched forward and Steven Bergwijn showed good strength to get the other side of Trent Alexander-Arnold and stabbed it with the outside of his boot.

    A good start from Tottenham.

  2. CLOSE!published at 46 mins

    Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham

And what a chance for Spurs to take the lead! A long ball over the top catches out Rhys Williams, who mistimes his jump and lets Steven Bergwijn in behind him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is all over him and puts pressure on, and Bergwijn can only slice his shot across goal. A glorious chance.

Back under way at Fulham, hopefully we will get a few more shots than we did in the first half.

Jose Mourinho has a game plan, stopping Liverpool and hitting them on the counter and that is what they have done most of the games this season.

They are playing the champions, the best team in the league and he has his gameplan.

Can he get them to be as disciplined in the second half and get them creating more?

To the strains of Led Zep here comes Jurgen Klopp. Steam still emerging from his ears.

Christian Benteke has scored three goals in his last three Premier League appearances, as many as in his previous 48

    A player reborn?

  8. Passing is overratedpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham

Tottenham completed only 75 passes in the first half, the fewest by a José Mourinho side in a league match since his Real Madrid side completed only 54 in the opening 45 minutes against Pep Guardiola's Barcelona in April 2012.

Seven Fields: How undeserved is this result for Spurs. Liverpool far better. Spurs just boring, boring.

Saidmadrid: Spurs happy to defend deep and wait for a quick break to hurt Liverpool. It's coming out nicely for Mourinho so far.

Kev: Are Spurs fans really happy sacrifice quality football for grinding out results by defending? Genuine question.

You have to say Liverpool have dominated the first half, their tempo of play has been brilliant. Tottenham are just hanging in there but they got a reward with a good counter-attack. It was a fantastic finish by Son but Tottenham are going to have to do a lot more to come away with a result.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho will be satisfied with the scoreline at half-time if not the performance of his team. Pinned back for so long they go in at half-time on level terms.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was fuming, to put it mildly, with the officials in the closing moments of that half.

Son has good reason to be tired, he made 11 sprints in that first half reaching a top speed of 30.74 km/h. Or 19.1 mph in old money.

Gio lo Celso covered the most ground in that half, running 6.36km. That's 90% of the Las Vegas strip.

Crystal Palace have their noses in front thanks to a great Christian Benteke header.

  16. 'That decision was the turning point of the game'published at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Leeds 5-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce on the challenge on Callum Wilson with the score 1-1: "If that's not a foul... it's a big decision. It's a big turning point in the game.

"Until the last 10 to 15 minutes, we've given away poor goals. Until the 77th minute we were in it but we gave bad goals away.

"We were poor. In trying to get a goal from a corner they ran the length of the box and scored."

Moussa Sissoko does a human wrecking ball job on the far side to win two or three tackles and it gets Jurgen Klopp close to boiling point.

The manager sprints down the tunnel at the whistle. Son looks absolutely knackered.

Ar Vind: This is where Mourinho teams are dangerous. Liverpool need to handle them carefully.

No question that TAA is world class going forward. He's just not good enough at defending yet and without VVD cleaning up for him he gets exposed.

    Matt, Bristol

Although it's been a nervy game for most Spurs fans, it's great to see Lo Celso showing off his creativity and play a superb assist into son. His form has been great and could be a key player for us this year.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2020

    Fulham 0-0 Brighton

A brilliant save by Robert Sanchez!

The stand-in Brighton goalkeeper tips over a fierce Ivan Cavaleiro drive from the edge of the area.

Cavaleiro might not get Another Chance as good as that one to beat Robert Sanchez (niche early 2000s DJ reference...).

Aleksander: If 2020 has taught us anything, expect the unexpected. Benteke to finish the season as top-scorer.

Peter Simmons: Son goal not set up by Kane!

Neil Whitear: As much as it pains me to say I still think Liverpool will win this game.

Ben: Son always delivers in the big games. What a player.
