Preston up to 13th before tomorrow's games, while Bristol City remain ninth, but that gap on the play-offs could swell from just two with the wrong results.

Daniel Johnson earns Preston a rare home win and hands Bristol City a fourth defeat in five, slightly bruising their play-off push.

Not a pretty game in the end, but Bristol City at least mounted a fightback in the second-half to suggest there's the right character in the group.

Preston block a Callum O'Dowda snap-shot, and clear...

    FIVE MINUTES OF ADDED TIME.

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Callum O'Dowda got down the left and stands up a cross but it loses pace in the air, possibly wind-affected.

Bristol City in last-chance saloon now. Jayden Stockley bangs one over the bar for Preston, that'll chew down the clock.

  9. CLOSE!published at 85 mins

Having soaked up pressure, Preston get possession and release Tom Barkhuizen down the right, he wins a corner off Tommy Rowe.

The set-piece wasn't cleared sufficiently, but Alan Browne's header sails wide.

  11. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Zak Vyner robs a dallying Scott Sinclair and springs a break for Bristol City.

However, Vyner's frustrated tantrum at failing to make the most of the territory shows the level of angst within the Robins side.

    Time is running out.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 79 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Alex Neil roaring like a bloke trying to flag down a taxi, getting the referee's attention.

Daniel Johnson comes off, the goalscorer, and Jayden Stockley is on to add a bit more grunt to the forward line.

  13. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Jack Hunt drills it in near post and Bristol City winger Antoine Semenyo darts o meet it, but puts it the wrong side of the upright.

Another very well constructed move, lovely pass to pick out Hunt.

    Declan Rudd was beaten.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Tom Bayliss comes on for Paul Gallagher.

The hamstring won't be risked. He supplied the killer pass for the chance which produced the penalty...

What do I know? He's back on.

Dr Newsum, I am certainly not.

  16. Postpublished at 74 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Callum O'Dowda goes at Josh Earl down the Preston right, but the Bristol City winger's cross is easily gathered by Declan Rudd.

Earl's a big full-back, great in the air but won't enjoy having the weaving, tricky feet of O'Dowda running at him.

Think Paul Gallagher might be off soon... holding his hammy.

  17. Postpublished at 71 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Bristol City look to Antoine Semenyo again to provide a threat, and he obliges.

Give and go pass gets him into space, but it's a wild swing on the back of it. 30 yards or so out. Well wide.

    Into the last 20 minutes.

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Sean Maguire has really impressed me. You can see more slight forwards dominated by big centre halves but he has held up the ball brilliantly all night.

And just as I type that, he gets the hook! Ha ha. Sorry Sean. Emil Riis Jakobsen comes on. Bit more of a physical threat. Darnell Fisher also brought off... Alex Neil senses the threat of him picking up a second yellow card.

    Joe Rafferty on.

  19. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Preston 1-0 Bristol City

Darnell Fisher catches Antoine Semenyo, the Bristol City player writhes on the floor.

Then we get the ensuing swarming of the referee. Fisher is already on a booking. There was a hearty appeal for a red from Semenyo's teammates.

Paul Huntington has played in the Premier League but I doubt he learned how to bang a ball 30 foot into the stand while operating at the elite level.

Industrial would be the best description. Just put his foot through it as he chased back a Bristol City break.

Meanwhile, Tyreeq Bakinson clips Alan Browne in midfield. Foul. Bit much made of it for my liking from the appealing Preston players.

First stoppage for a while. It's been full-throttle.
