Paul: Liverpool have a developed team, as they have already won the league & CL, whereas Utd are still a developing team. Have Utd got the best squad though, which will count this season?

Gee Em: Man utd already getting heavy into the tackles starting to be played around in midfield... Thaigo's smarts will be huge here.

He may not be happy but his side are clicking into gear. Thiago and Xherdan Shaqiri have got them into rhythm but there's no end product yet.

Jordan Henderson then does well to win a header from in front of Marcus Rashford.

The voice of Jurgen Klopp booms around Anfield and his tone is one of displeasure - followed by some frantic jumping up and down and waving of his arms towards his Liverpool players.

    Not satisfied with something.

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa & Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

When Manchester United haven't got the ball they've gone into a 4-4-1-1 with Bruno Fernandes just in behind Marcus Rashford. Trying to overload the midfield area so Liverpool don't take charge of the situation.

No time to take a breath in that midfield, as it should be in such a game. Thiago lunges in but wins the ball and is trodden on by Scott McTominay. No harm done.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

The first test of Jordan Henderson as a makeshift centre-back and he's left in the wake of Marcus Rashford like many a guest on Question Time. His cross is decent, but Fabinho is there to sweep it out and away.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Xherdan Shaqiri is the forgotten man of Anfield but he's started well, playing pretty deep in midfield but an influence early on. Thiago, on his home debut, sprays a fine ball out to the right but Trent Alexander-Arnold is shut out.

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Quality from Sadio Mane to roll his man in midfield and Liverpool have numbers up. Xherdan Shaqiri, who hastened the departure of Jose from his suite at the Lowry with a few goals in this fixture, shapes to shoot but then finds Andy Robertson who duffs a cross into the side-netting.

On the day, it was the same - it always felt like the biggest game of the season at Anfield. The atmosphere alone told me that, because of the intensity of it and the passion of the supporters.

I’ve not seen Liverpool play a different way for about two years now, they have their way of playing and their issue is when they don’t do it well they tend to come up with some bad results.

You take Jordan Henderson and that intensity out of that dynamic midfield and they’ll get caught. Then you don’t have the comfort blanket of Virgil Van Dijk then every now and then when you do get caught. Man United will have their chances and Liverpool will know that.

It's not often the centre-backs dominate the pre-match chat but fans of both clubs seem a bit perplexed by the team selection back there.

Liverpool have gone for Jordan Henderson alongside Fabinho, while United have gone for Victor Lindelof and not Eric Bailly.
